Hi friends!

There are three new companies on Key Values that I'd like you to meet! 😍 But first, I need to get something off my chest...

Please stop asking others, "What's the best company to work for?" I understand the value in getting recommendations and reviews from lots of people, but this is a trick question, and the only person you're fooling is yourself.

Look inward instead and ask, "What is the best company for me to work at?"

What you care about is different than what other people care about. In fact, what you care about now is probably different than what you cared about 5 years ago! Our personal and professional values are unique to who we are and ever-changing. There is no universal definition for what the "best company" looks like.

With Key Values, it is not my job to say if a company is good or bad. My job is to help surface the information that allows you to decide whether a company is good or bad for you. I once met a crypto company that employed ~30 anarchists. While I personally wouldn't want to work there, who am I to say that that isn't a dream job for someone else?!

If you don't know what you care about yet, don't worry! We're all works in progress. We can all benefit from learning how different teams operate and seeing what resonates. Maybe you're passionate about artificial intelligence. Maybe you miss the camaraderie of a competitive sports team. Or maybe you want a job that lets you live as a digital nomad.

Your dream team might be right under your nose! And it's on you to see it:
👃👓👇

Automattic (profile) 📍 Remote Only (Global)
No relocation support or work authorizations needed –– they're remote!
Automattic is the team behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, WooCommerce, the latest Tumblr acquisition, and more. The Automattic team is currently ~460 engineers who live all over the world. While the company is deeply rooted in a commitment to open source, they also recognize that this can be a double-edged sword for some. (I very much appreciate how cognizant they are about this. 🙌)

Fun fact: Did you know that WordPress websites power 34% of the websites on the internet?! Given that WP websites see 162M+ unique visitors per month in the U.S. alone, developers at Automattic have a lot of opportunity to make an impact.

Let's Do This (profile) 📍 San Francisco, CA and London, UK
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations on a case-by-case basis.
Let's Do This is a marketplace for endurance events. Their mission to help people be active and conquer personal challenges is something that GOAT Serena Williams and Usain Bolt believe in, too –– that's why they're two of LDT's investors! The team started in London and now that they've raised their Series A, they're prepared to expand into the U.S. market and already have seven folks in their SF office.

You don't need to be an athlete in order to join, but if you're the type of person who loves to run, ride, or try obstacle courses, do yourself a favor and acquaint yourself with Let's Do This

Labelbox (profile) 📍 San Francisco, CA or Remote (Global)
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations.
Labelbox is the GitHub for training data and machine learning teams. Today, ML teams spend ~80% of their time creating and managing training data. Labelbox provides a complete solution to remove that bottleneck. Today, they're a design-driven team of ~15 engineers and are passionate about accelerating our world's ability to accurately detect cancer and build safe self-driving cars.

The team also has a lot of fun together! Five of their first hires all ended up bringing on their best friends, so the team genuinely love working and spending time with one another. 🤗

VSCO (profile) 📍 Oakland, CA and Chicago, IL
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations on a case-by-case basis.
VSCO is a mobile creative channel made for creators, by creators. They build creative tools, spaces, and connections to help people fall in love with their own creativity (so if you're an engineer wanting a creative outlet, check 'em out). And even though they're foraying into new spaces from a tech stance, they don’t expect candidates to be familiar with every technology they use. Just be curious!

Newfront (profile) 📍 San Francisco, CA
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations.
Newfront is building a modern platform to transact insurance. They're supercharging brokers with technology and specialize in helping high-growth startups with business insurance. In fact, Newfront is also a hyper-growh startup (they went from 10 to 200 employees in the last 18 months!). They're all so excited to show up every day to redesign an entrenched and archaic industry.

Hipcamp (profile) 📍 San Francisco, CA or Remote
Provides relocation support. Sponsors work authorizations.
Hipcamp makes it easy for people to explore, adventure, and find the best campsite. Their CEO Alyssa started Hipcamp to get more people outside and is passionate about sustainability. Internally, they focus on results, not hours. Their team supports flexible hours, occasional remote work, and encourages folks to work from home in a way that best works for them. (They all use their own product on weekends, too! ⛺)

When a trusted friend recommends a restaurant, book, or TV show to you, how often do you end up not liking it as much as they did? (It's probably 40% of the time for me. 😂) Choosing which company you'll work at for years of your life is a much bigger commitment than choosing where to grab lunch, so don't base your decision solely on what others tell you! (Even if they're friends or family members!)

You know yourself better than anyone else does, and remember, you're the only person who has to live with whatever decision you make.

Look inward and trust yourself!
