Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

Welcome to the YRCC's new monthly newsletter! There are so many wonderful things happening at the YRCC, and we are excited to share them with you on a more regular basis. If you would like daily or weekly updates please follow us on Facebook or Instagram (links below). At the YRCC, our programs are transforming to serve more kids, and provide more opportunities for recreation, education, and socialization. For one, we have brought back our Teen Trip Series. There will be a trip to see the broadway musical, Finding Neverland at the Walton Arts Center in December (see bottom of newsletter for flyer), and a teen afternoon out with lunch, movie, and more TBD. If you want any information about programs, gym usage, rentals, etc. please visit our website through the City of Fayetteville. It is a great resource for everything YRCC!

This fall we have a full schedule of youth programming. We currently have over 30 kids in our after school program, 68 kids in our home school P.E. class, and 30 Girl Scouts!
Our home school P.E. class has already enjoyed classes filled with team building games, ultimate frisbee, and healthy farm to table cooking (and eating!). They still have hiking, basketball, rock climbing, and more to look forward to. This year there is a stronger focus on age-appropriate activities in P.E. class. With the help of our public health and social work interns, we able to do more than ever before with X Factor Home School P.E!

Our after school program, Kid's Nite, has also changed over the years. We are excited to be able to provide healthier snacks that meet our Healthy Out of School Time goals. Our healthier food options are possible with support from Ozark Natural Foods, Sowers of the Harvest, Whole Foods, and Razorback Food Recovery. The Neiderman Family also made a generous donation to support our after school meals this fall.

More changes to Kid's Nite include new programs/clubs, character circle time, and educational enrichment for kids without homework or tutoring. We have different weekly themes during educational enrichment focusing on everything from the Scientific Method to Picasso. Everyday, from 4:30-5:30pm, we have multiple programs/clubs including, cooking, gardening, field trip series, STEM, cultural enrichment, Girl Scouts, and our newest program- Ball Hogs (see more info below).

Additionally, Kids' Nite parents are now able to participate in "Kids' Nite, Parent Might." This is a program that focuses on self-care for parents. Research shows when parents take care of themselves they are better equipped to take care of their kids. Parents have the chance to win massages, hair styling vouches, and gift cards from local businesses.

We are proud to continue to improve and add programming to better serve the community. To learn more about what we are up to keep scrolling!

Our stop signs and crosswalks, designed by two of our summer campers! This is part of the tactical urbanism program and won't be permanent without your positive feedback.Take this survey and let the city know how much safer this crosswalk is making the neighborhood for our kids!

Home School P.E. Class Sponsorships

We are extremely lucky to have great program partners that provide us with free recreational opportunities. During the Fall semester our home school kids will be working with the Fayetteville Disc Association, UARK Women's Rugby Team, and spend time at the Boys and Girls Club Pool, Pack Rat, and Apple Seeds Farm! Thank you partners!

Spots available in our Tuesday Home School P.E. class (9:30am-11:00am).

Kid's Nite Funding

Our after school program has been awarded three different grants for programming this year! Altrusa International, Inc. awarded funding for our cultural enrichment program where the kids learn about cultures from around the world, and STEAM program that focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. We were able to purchase numerous reading and curriculum resources, snap circuits, legos, and more!

Additionally, the YRCC was awarded a Community Development Block Grant for its Ball Hogs program that works to build community by uniting the youth with their public servants (Fayetteville police officers). The program provides our kids with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of basketball and reduce negative stigma about police by forming positive relationships with local officers.
