This Week at Ogden
January 7th, 2019
Dear Ogden Families & Community,
Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all! It is my hope that you had a wonderful winter break with your families. I took some time off the first week of break, but I am excited to be back at school and to start the new year with some new goals. I always take the opportunity that the new year brings to reflect and set goals for the future. I have been reflecting and thinking a lot over break about expanding and strengthening opportunities to bring the three campuses together under One Ogden for students, teachers, and parents. I will be sharing more in the coming weeks about some of my ideas and I welcome any ideas or suggestions that you have, as well.
Thank you to the parents and families that attended my information session before break about the plan for the Jenner campus. If you were not able to join, you can view the summary of the action plan here. It is a living document and plan that will evolve over time. I will keep the Ogden community updated on the progress of the action items over time.
I will be hosting a meet & greet at Ogden east on Thursday, January 10th in the morning at 8:45-9:45 and in the evening from 5:00-6:00 in the cafeteria. This will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and to hear more about you and your child's experience with Ogden. I look forward to seeing you then!
You should have received an email and letter (linked here) over winter break from the Chief Education Officer, LaTanya McDade regarding a potential data breach of your student's data and teacher evaluation data. If you didn't receive, you will be receiving a paper copy in the mail. While this situation is still under review and investigation, I can share with you what I do know:
1. The teacher and faculty representatives of the Local School Council (LSC) have unequivocally stated that private student data was not shared, nor did they see any teacher evaluation data. They reviewed what was in the folder when it was originally shared and those files were not included in there. I have not had the opportunity to speak with all council members, but the ones that I have spoken to have stated the same thing to me.
2. I also would like to share with you is that this matter was been turned over to the Office of Inspector General for further investigation and review to better understand the full scope of this situation. A member of the LSC has requested a full forensic investigation of the google folder.
Student privacy is something that I take seriously and something that the district takes seriously. I will be re-sharing the acceptable use policy and the protecting student privacy information with all faculty members as part of my weekly memo. All CPS staff members are held accountable to these policies and are required to know them.
If you have any specific questions about your child's information or data, please route them to the email address provided in the letter at firstname.lastname@example.org
As you may know, hiring a Director of Culture & Climate at the Jenner campus has been a top priority for me. I am happy to announce that Mr. John Robinson has joined the Ogden faculty as the Director of Culture & Climate for the Jenner Campus. Mr. Robinson comes with a wealth of experience and is coming from Austin College & Career Academy, where he was the Dean/Operations Manager. Mr. Robinson has a plethora of experiences in building systems and structures and will be instrumental in supporting the on-going culture work at Jenner campus. If you are interested in knowing a little more about Mr. Robinson, you can find his bio here. I will host a meeting in the next couple of weeks for you to meet Mr. Robinson, please stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, if you need to reach out to Mr. Robinson, his email is email@example.com
I have also been working with the district around requesting additional resources to support Ogden and to support the merger. I have asked for funding for a 4th Assistant Principal position, which the district has granted my request. I believe that there is work to be done to support the academic and social-emotional needs of all students; and it is my vision that all students experience success at school. The 4th AP will primarily support the Jenner campus, which will allow for me to spend more time at all three Ogden campuses to lead and support the instructional vision. The person in this position will work in tandem with Mrs. Ford around the day to day operations, instructional leadership, and culture & climate leadership for the Jenner campus. I will be engaging a team of teachers, students, and parents to be a part of the interview and selection process.
