Cultivating Inside/Outside Networks of Care:
Humanities Behind Bars Pen-Pal Program

Dear Humanities Behind Bars members and supporters,

We are excited to announce that we will be holding monthly meetings for the HBB Pen-Pal Program over the summer and into the fall. We will convene the second Friday of every month at The Muse Writers Center (2200 Colonial Ave #3, Norfolk, VA 23517). Our first letter-writing session will be held on Friday, May 11th, from 4:30-6:30pm. No worries if you're new to this kind of advocacy: we will guide you through the process. Everyone is welcome!

Please support fellow HBB member
Kendrick McCray fight an unjust sentence!

HBB organizer Kendrick McCray is facing 3 years in prison for a possession charge, a sentence almost identical to those with distribution charges. Both the prosecutor and his public defender denied Kendrick's request for a less draconian sentence, one that consists of 1 year jail time coupled with an alternative program to suspend the remaining sentence. Unsurprisingly, this alternative sentence is often offered to white people. Please support Kendrick with legal defense that advocates for equitable treatment in a fundamentally unjust system. Any amount--large or small--will help raise funds for a lawyer who will beat this racist sentence!

Please share this fundraising page widely! Every penny helps us fight this unjust system. #BringKendrickHome

Support Kendrick and fight injustice!

Love and abolition,

Alison Reed, Program Director & Co-Founder
Casey Guditus, HBB Treasurer

Danielle Goldstein, Student Justice Coordinator
Meghan Morris, Graduate Research Assistant
