Love is an Acid that Eats Away Bars:
Upcoming Zine Release Party & Letter-Writing Session
Dear HBB members and supporters,

We have had a wonderful semester full of coalition and solidarity! Thank you for all of your continued contributions as we imagine a world with care, not cages.

Thanks to your support we were able to raise over $400 to ensure housing security for a formerly incarcerated comrade, and to aid a currently incarcerated comrade as he recovers from surgery.
We’re very excited to announce that we’re having our Zine Release Party on Friday, November 15th from 6:30PM - 10PM. We are going to showcase our newest zine, Contraband Love, at O'Connor Brewing Company (211 West 24th St, Norfolk, VA 23517)! We will be selling zine copies, t-shirts, and stickers throughout the night. We can't wait to celebrate this accomplishment with our HBB family! You can RSVP to our Facebook event for the party here.

Make sure you get a wristband from a volunteer at the door so the venue knows that you are a part of our event. And remember to mention Humanities Behind Bars when you make an order, because 10% of the profits from all drinks purchased will be donated to our program as well. As you all know, all proceeds fundraised go directly back into the organization for maintenance costs and to support our currently and formerly incarcerated comrades!

We have made social media blasts about the event on Facebook and Instagram, so please feel free to share widely!

If you need more information on the event, please contact Meghan Morris at:
We also want to remind y'all that our final solidarity letter-writing session of the fall semester will be happening on Thursday, November 14th in the auditorium of The Muse Writers Center (2200 Colonial Ave #3, Norfolk, VA 23517) from 7:30PM - 9:30PM.  We’ll match you with a pen-pal to correspond with as we continue the process of mailing out zines to contributors of Contraband Love and enjoy snacks together. Bring a friend and cultivate inside/outside alliances!

If you need more information, please contact Danielle Goldstein at:

We hope you will join us for these opportunities for engagement!
