Hello parents and guardians,

Welcome back to school!!! We are excited to start a new year.  We are eager to see the students and experience time together.  The pandemic isn't over, we will try to bring back as much normal (and fun) as possible, as safely as possible. We will faithfully implement policies set by the District and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. Masks are required for the first 10 days and when CDC levels are high. We will continue outdoor lunch.

I invite you to get involved this year. We look forward to seeing parents volunteer in the schoolyard.  We appreciate your input and partnership with our school staff. Our first SAC meeting is Tuesday, August 30 at 6:00pm. Registration details will be in the e-News. Back to school night will be Wednesday September 21, 2022 at 5:30pm.

Students learn when they are in school. Here is the attendance policy from the School District of Philadelphia. We look forward to seeing students everyday! Thanks for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Anna Jenkins

CELEBRATIONS

PSSA science grade 4 & 8 Increased!!

We saw phenomenal growth on our English/Language Arts PSSAs (2nd highest growth in the district). We had increases in English/Language Arts and Math PSSA proficiency across the board, and K-3 was at or above benchmark in Reading. Congrats to our hard-working students!

CELL PHONE POLICY

All cell phones will be collected by middle school students' homeroom teachers when students arrive at their classrooms.  Phones will be locked up and safe for the school day.  Students will get their cell phones back at the end of the day before leaving to go home.

If a student does not turn in their cell phone and is seen on/using their phone throughout the school day it will be taken to the office and a parent or guardian will need to come up to school to get the phone back.

If you need to reach your child during the school day you are welcome to call the office.

Thanks for your cooperation.

CHILD BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Given the well-documented negative impacts of refined sugar on the brain and body we  have decided to adopt new guidelines for birthday parties at school. Birthdays are  special days for young children. We enthusiastically support kids celebrating with their families and friends during out of school time. If you wish to acknowledge a birthday in  school please check in with your child’s teacher first. Then you can decide to bring in  one of the following items:

• Prefered way to celebrate - share inexpensive supportive educational materials  like small erasers, notepads or single markers. Think simple but fun.

• Small (like one bite) and sugar-free snacks to share.

• Munchkins

Thanks for supporting this policy. If you have feedback or additional ideas please reach  out to AJenkins@philasd.org.

MEET THE STUDENT TEACHERS

It is my pleasure to work with your student this year as their Student Teacher and assist in their learning of Math, Science, and Social Studies alongside Mrs. Felock! I have had a love for working with children for as long as I can remember and am ecstatic to start assisting in teaching a class of my own.  I am originally from Long Island, New York, but I recently moved to Philadelphia for college. I am a Senior studying Early Childhood Education at Temple University and I aspire to earn a Masters at Hunter College in Childhood Education with a Specialization in STEM. A fun fact about myself is that I studied classical voice for 5 years! In my free-time I enjoy reading, practicing yoga, and singing. I am passionate about providing high quality education to all of the students in our classroom and have high expectations that they will be successful in the third grade.

Best,

Miss Morrissey
