New Hallway Gallery Show

The Hmong Needlework Artists of Kasjiab House

Kasjiab House was founded by Journey Mental Health Center in 2000 specifically to serve the needs of Madison’s Hmong community. Members of Kasjib House receive counseling and support as many have suffered trauma and experience PTSD from their ordeals during the Vietnam War and forced immigration from Laos to refugee camps in Thailand.

Kasjiab (pronounced ga shee'ah) is the Hmong word for "relief of stress and tension."

Needlework has been a therapeutic activity for the women of this community who have cultural traditions of skilled embroidery and applique techniques. Beautifully detailed story quilts portraying their own lives and traditional folk tales are often subjects in their work. Since immigrating to the US and making a new home here, many of the Hmong stitchers have learned and added American quilting techniques, traditions and motifs to their artwork. The show will be on display through December 31, don’t miss it!

We Have Winners!

Reduce, Reuse or Just Don’t Use -- The winner of our monthly drawing to promote reduction of plastic bag waste is Becca Tracey! Thank you to all members of our community who elect to use their own shopping bag or who just refuse a new one at checkout. It may seem like a small gesture, but never forget that collectively we can bring about change and have an impact on protecting our precious Earth. We strive to make good stewardship of our environment synonymous with Blue Bar Quilts so we will continue this monthly drawing indefinitely and hope we’ll see more and more tickets in our fishbowl each month.
The Grand Prize Winner of our Jaybird Mini-Mini Challenge drawing is Ann Hill! Ann submitted three quilts for each of the three rounds and won a Jaybird Quilts exclusive kit for the Giggles quilt that included the pattern, Sidekick ruler, a layer cake and yardage for the background and binding.
