Quilt Expo was a resounding success!

Our booth was buzzing with activity all three days. We loved seeing so many Blue Bar Quilts friends there and wish to welcome all our new friends to our modern quilting community.
Over 20,000 quilting and sewing enthusiasts attended the event again this year and the variety and artistry of the quilts on display were amazing. A BIG thank you to all the BBQ staff and friends who worked hard to make our Expo booth a success and held down the fort back at the shop as well. I so appreciate your commitment, talent and creativity.
We debuted some beautiful quilts in our booth that are now gracing the shop walls. Stop by to see our fresh new designs. Kits are still available for Celestial and Monarch.

Reduce, Reuse or Just Don’t Use.

August was the first month of our Reduce, Reuse or Just Don’t Use effort to reduce environmentally harmful plastic waste by encouraging alternatives to single-use shopping bags. The response we received in just one month was fantastic -- by month’s end we had hundreds of tickets in our fishbowl for drawing our winner of a 4-Fat Quarter Gift Card.
Congratulations to Kris Berman for being our first monthly winner!
Thank you to all who just say “No!” to plastic by reusing a bag or refusing a new one. New ideas are in the works for more fun ways to make being good stewards of the Earth fun at Blue Bar Quilts. Stay tuned!
Sea turtles frequently mistake plastic bags for jellyfish.
Americans throw away 100 billion plastic bags annually. That’s about 307 bags per person! All that waste can be eliminated by switching to reusable shopping bags.
Each customer who uses their own reusable bag or simply says no to a shopping bag at checkout is eligible to participate in our monthly prize drawing for a 4-Fat Quarter Gift Card.

Simply say “No!” to plastic and have a chance to win!

Wicked Hex EPP Mini Quilt

Thursday, September 27
Thursday, October 4

The Wicked Hex is an English Paper Piecing project designed by Libs Elliott. It's versatile in that you can fussy-cut certain pieces to add focus to the quilt. Because the pieces are larger, it's a good starting point for anyone who hasn't tried English Paper Piecing before. It's portable, great for mini quilt swaps and it's not just wicked...it's fun. Pattern required and it includes all paper templates to complete the quilt.

Surface Design with Thickened Dyes

Saturday, September 22

We will start this class with pure play, exploring the dyes and tools by experimenting on cloth prepared by the instructor. There are many ways to apply thickened dye and we will probably discover new ones. We will use tools such as scrapers, brushes, stamps, mono-print plates, rollers and some household items. After the introductory play session, each student will get additional prepared fabric to either continue experimentation or may work with your own specific plan.

Architectural Quilt

Saturday, September 29

The industrial revolution was my inspiration to create this quilt: a period of increased manufacturing and design. The quilt boasts bold, over-sized focal patches in solid colors, using varied substrates and combining smaller blocks pieced in bright colors and prints. There will be improvisation and color play, experimenting with scale to maximize interest with straight lines and sharp angles, like the structures we encounter in metropolitan areas.
