Wisconsin Quilt Shop Hop 2019!

Blue Bar Quilts is participating in the Wisconsin Quilt Shop Hop this year!

The WI Quilt Shop Hop starts on June 7 and Blue Bar Quilts is part of Section 2. Our section project is an exclusive Creek Side Stitches pattern designed by Patti Hellenbrand of Village Creek Quilts.

When you get your passport stamped at each of the 10 shops in Section 2 you may ask for a strip of Moda Grunge fabric to use in the section project. After you get all 10 Section 2 passport stamps you will receive the pattern for free!

The shop hop fabric this year is especially appealing for UW Badger fans!

Here’s a sneak peak of our shop project quilt:
There are opportunities to win prizes from each shop, section, and statewide by visiting participating shops and collecting passport stamps. Stop by Blue Bar to pick up a free Shop Hop guide with all the details. We hope to meet & greet many hoppers and look forward to seeing all of you!

Wicked Hex EPP Mini Quilt

Instructor: Elizabeth Oner

Sunday, June 9 & Sunday, June 16

The Wicked Hex is an English Paper Piecing project designed by Libs Elliott. It's versatile in that you can fussy-cut certain pieces to add focus to the quilt. Because the pieces are larger, it's a good starting point for anyone who hasn't tried English Paper Piecing before. It's portable, great for mini quilt swaps and it's not just wicked...it's fun. Pattern required and it includes all paper templates to complete the quilt.

The Memory of Stitches Retreat

Instructor: Maday Delgado

Saturday, June 1

Every stitch has a memory attached to it -- its own space in time, intention and frame of reference -- just like the stroke of a brush on canvas. "Art becomes meaningful because it has the power to express important things that would in all likelihood remain unstated." (Modern Art, Preface by Sam Hunter/Daniel Wheeler 2004).

Hand-stitching is the perfect tool for bridging the gap between fine and textile art. Textile art moves us in cloth in a way that connects to our ancestors to reveal their struggles and triumphs through generations. In this workshop we will explore intuitive composition guided by diverse textile substrates and organic geometric forms to create an intricately textured work of art. You may apply rich layers of straight-line stitches that invoke years of traditions and pay tribute to a surface design form, often viewed as utilitarian (the straight stitch), but no less powerful than brush strokes.

Intro to Foundation Paper Piecing

Instructor: Cheryl Schenck

Tuesday, June 4

Foundation paper piecing is a technique that will open up your patchwork world. If you've ever looked at a complicated or tiny pieced quilt and wondered how they did that, it was probably with paper piecing! Once you learn this technique, you can use it for any number of projects.

Choose from two designs from Flying Parrot Quilts, either Gossamer Wings dragonfly or Tiny Jewel hummingbird and you'll be hooked in no time!

Surface Design with Thickened Dyes

Instructor: Pamela Niebauer

Saturday, June 8

We will start this class with pure play, exploring the dyes and tools by experimenting on cloth prepared by the instructor. There are many ways to apply thickened dye and we will probably discover new ones. We will use tools such as scrapers, brushes, stamps, mono-print plates, rollers and some household items. After the introductory play session, each student will get additional prepared fabric to either continue experimentation or may work with your own specific plan.
