Forest Quilt Auction to Benefit

Days for Girls

QThis spectacular quilt was made by the High Country Quilt Guild of Mount Horeb to help support the work of the Days for Girls Middleton Team, which has called Blue Bar Quilts its home for the past two years.

Days for Girls is an international organization that organizes teams all over the world to make reusable feminine hygiene kits that are sent to areas of the world where no products are available for dealing with monthly periods. In these areas, girls and women stay home when they have their periods, causing the loss of days at school or work. The washable hygiene kits allow them to be productive every day.

The very prolific Middleton team was started two years ago by Nancy Jarvis and has grown quickly to over 100 members. To date, more than 400 kits have been made and shipped to Malawi, Philippines, Bali, Kenya, Haiti, Botswana and most recently, to Syrian refugee camps. The proceeds from this auction will help cover the cost of materials needed to sew most of the parts of the kits, to purchase other items that are included in the kits, and to pay for shipping.

The sealed bid auction of this 95”x106” quilt will continue through November 6 at 3:00 PM. The starting bid is a minimum of $1000. If you would like a bid form we have them in shop or you can email and we will send one to you via email to print, fill out and return to the shop in person or by mail. Please feel free to share this information with anyone you feel would be interested.

The Weaving Connection with Maday

Instructor: Maday Delgado

October 19

Weaving as a sustainable practice can be rewarding and fun; meditation in the act of making. The woven cloth can be used in practical or decorative application and you can always count on weaving becoming a part of your artistic self-expression. In this workshop, we explore weaving with typical and atypical fibers to create textures and interest in your work. My hope is that you will want to include bits of denim which will be provided by Maday. You will be rewarded with a fabric swatch completed entirely by you using a high quality loom by Purl & Loop that you will take home to use again & again. All supplies are included but feel free to bring bits of fiber; yarn, etc. from your own stash to include if you desire.
