Electric Quilt Classes

Instructor: Barb Gardner

October 11 & 12

Electric Quilt - How Does It Work & Should I Invest?

This introductory demonstration gives a student who owns the Electric Quilt program the confidence to go home and play with it. It's also good for someone who just wants to see how Electric Quilt works before making the decision to purchase it. Take your quilting into the computer age. Play with color, design and pattern ideas. Rotate or mirror blocks, recolor, add sashing, figure yardage, generate accurate patterns and more with the click of a mouse. Take a tour to see if this design tool is for you. Many of the commands are what you are already familiar with from use of computers, phones, and tablets. No computer or EQ software is required for this class, it is lecture and demonstration. Visit to see an overview on how this computer program can change your quilting life.

Electric Quilt 7 & 8 - Introduction To Hands On Quilt Design

Bring your computer with EQ7 or EQ8 loaded and spend time exploring the program. Design blocks, quilts, and borders from scratch and from the EQ library. Learn about libraries, block design, quilt layouts, printing, yardage estimates, and other tools. Learn to adapt patterns from magazines, add fabrics to the program and more. This hands-on intensive tour of the program will give you the confidence to explore and create more on your own and make it work for you. There will be project introductions for beginners to advanced students.

Surface Design with Thickened Dyes

Instructor: Pamela Niebauer

October 13

We will start this class with pure play, exploring the dyes and tools by experimenting on cloth prepared by the instructor. There are many ways to apply thickened dye and we will probably discover new ones. We will use tools such as scrapers, brushes, stamps, mono-print plates, rollers and some household items. After the introductory play session, each student will get additional prepared fabric to either continue experimentation or may work with your own specific plan.

Funky Friends Cat or Dog

Instructor: Cheryl Schenck

October 1 & 3 ( 2 sessions)

Make your own adorable stuffed animal using your favorite fabrics! You can make either the cat or the dog. Samples are Patch the Pussycat and Digger the Dachshund. This can be a tricky project, so this class is intended for sewists with some experience. Of the two samples, the cat is more difficult than the dog.

Leaf Printed Silk Scarf

Instructor: Kipp Inglis

October 12

Real leaves from plants can make their mark on fabric! Using available leaves, rich in tannin and colors near the end of their autumnal cycle, participants will learn to treat a silk scarf to transfer the leaf imprint to the fabric with bundling, pressure and heat techniques. While not all colors will transfer, outlines, vein lines, natural imperfections (bug chomps, disease spots, missing leaf lobes) will come out as interesting prints on silk. Mother Nature provides our medium to make your own fabric design!

The Weaving Connection with Maday

Instructor: Maday Delgado

October 19

Weaving as a sustainable practice can be rewarding and fun; meditation in the act of making. The woven cloth can be used in practical or decorative application and you can always count on weaving becoming a part of your artistic self-expression. In this workshop, we explore weaving with typical and atypical fibers to create textures and interest in your work. My hope is that you will want to include bits of denim which will be provided by Maday. You will be rewarded with a fabric swatch completed entirely by you using a high quality loom by Purl & Loop that you will take home to use again & again. All supplies are included but feel free to bring bits of fiber; yarn, etc. from your own stash to include if you desire.
