This weekend:
Logo Discount Days!

T-Shirt Discount Days is now Logo Discount Days and it’s this weekend!

We promised to make reducing plastic bag usage fun and we are doing just that: Hot off the press are cotton panels printed with our shop logo to incorporate into your own shopping bag, tote or apparel. Our T-Shirt Discount Days, held the fourth weekend of every month (that’s this weekend!), will now be Logo Discount Days. When you bring in your bag, accessory or wearable made using our logo panel during Logo Discount Days you will receive 20% off your purchase of all full-price merchandise.* Of course, wearing your Blue Bar Quilts logo t-shirt into the shop on Logo Discount Days still qualifies for the discount.

Our 9-inch square logo panel is $8.95 and is available now. When you purchase one during Logo Discount Days you will receive the 20% discount described above (please note the panel is not eligible for discount). In the future, the discount only applies when the panel is incorporated into a handmade bag or other item -- stitched onto your jean jacket, perhaps? *Discount does not apply to Makers Gallery, sale items, t-shirts, logo panels, classes or events.

Blue Bar Quilts Logo Bag Sew Day, Friday, November 16

To facilitate and inspire you to create a logo bag, we are hosting a Logo Bag Sew Day on Friday, November 16. The only cost for this event is the purchase of a logo panel. Store hours will be extended until 10:00 PM for this sew day to give everyone the opportunity to join us. Register here. Use the panel to make the bag or tote pattern of your choice.

If you need recommendations, we have several to suggest that we have tested. I made mine using Sew Hungry Hippie’s Essentials Tote pattern and customized it to make it my own. I can’t wait to take it to Quilt Market next month and show it off!

Reduce. Reuse. Or Just Don’t Use. It’s working!

Our effort to reduce plastic merchandise bag usage is working – since August 1, 47% of our in-store customers have refused a bag at checkout! That’s more than 1,300 plastic bags in just three months! We have had many thoughtful conversations with our customers about this endeavor and thank you all for joining us in saying “no” to single-use plastic bags. Together, our Blue Bar Quilts modern quilting community is raising awareness and reducing the environmental impact of plastic bag waste. And that just feels good!
According to EarthDay.org and WorldWatch.org, Americans throw away 100 billion plastic bags annually (now minus 1,300 and growing!).

Susan Carlson Trunk Show & Lecture

https://susancarlson.com/

This is an inspirational and informative slideshow and lecture starting with Susan’s first fabric experiments of more than twenty years ago, in which she began to combine fabric and art. These early projects led to the fabric collage method she began in 1990. The slide lecture traces this progression of her quilts to the present day, with insights and stories for each. The step-by-step development of a piece is shown, from the original inspiration to the finished wall hanging. She will share techniques and hints for design, fabric selection, construction, borders, and quilting. A collection of quilts will accompany the slide presentation, allowing viewers to examine completed pieces and to see up-close how Susan’s techniques are applied. A question and answer period will follow.

Upcoming Classes

Surface Design With Thickened Dyes

Instructor: Pamela Niebauer

Tuesday, November 13

We will start this class with pure play, exploring the dyes and tools by experimenting on cloth prepared by the instructor. There are many ways to apply thickened dye and we will probably discover new ones. We will use tools such as scrapers, brushes, stamps, mono-print plates, rollers and some household items. After the introductory play session, each student will get additional prepared fabric to either continue experimentation or may work with your own specific plan.

Wool Prefelt Table Mat

Monday, November 5

Prefelt is a lightly needled wool sheet used as a base for wet and needle felting. Not strong enough to be a fabric by itself, the felting is open and porous enough to blend beautifully with added colors. Using the finest loose wool, you will develop your table mat design then embellish it with prefelt pieces. Perfect to gift or use to decorate your own holiday table.
