Last week’s Messy Church looked at the feeding of the 5000. As we picnicked in the sunshine, ran three-legged races and built towers, we read about that great crowd who gathered to listen to Jesus. And Mark’s gospel tells us:

They all ate and were satisfied” (Mark 6:42)

Was this just a physical satisfaction, or had that day with Jesus, watching him heal, listening to him teach, resulted in a deeper and fuller satisfaction than they had known before?

What was the satisfaction that we felt at the end of Messy Church? Was it just the satisfaction of a good day out in the sun, or was the joy of the Lord known among us as we gathered?

What about the satisfaction of the Hong Kong welcome group as the members brought Cantonese delicacies to be enjoyed? Just the satisfaction of new tastes and delicacies, or a deeper and fuller satisfaction of God at work among a group who are new and settling into the area?

God’s word invites us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). God is good! We see his goodness in all he is doing around us. We have known his faithfulness during the 40 years since NMBC being planted as a church. And we look to his goodness for the future.

As we do so, we want to call the whole church pray specifically for a favourable response to our request to let the school in Maidenhill on Sunday afternoons for what we believe God is calling us to next there.

So let me invite you today to eat and be satisfied with God’s goodness to you, to delight in Jesus and give thanks to God our Father, even as we look to God for the future.
