Knee Sleeves vs Knee Wraps
KNEE SLEEVES vs KNEE WRAPS
KNEE WRAPS - These are designed to give you the maximum mechanical advantage. We have 4 (soon to be 5) different types of knee wrap but they all have one main purpose - to help you lift more weight. They do this because during the downward phase of your squat, the knee wrap will tighten, allowing a massive surge of elastic energy to be stored which is released during the upward phase thereby allowing you to lift heavier weights during squats. Also the elastic in the wraps is alway straining to get back to it's original shape so if you wrap your knees when they are straight the elastic will always be forcing your leg straight again thus giving you a mechanical advantage. Knee wraps are also said to reduce stress on the quadriceps tendon, which attaches to the quadriceps and the patella. As you squat downwards, the tendon pulls on the patella. Therefore, reducing tension on this tendon helps reduce your risk of tearing your quads. However they are uncomfortable and due to the nature of how you wear them (very tight) they can only be worn for a short period of time. They are also very poor for movement and for anything that requires a full range of movement.
CONCLUSION - Knee wraps are perfect for heavy squats and in particular sports like powerlifting and strongman.
KNEE SLEEVES - Designed to protect your knee from future injury and reduce risk of damage during all forms of weight/resistance training and sports. Our strong 7mm neoprene provides a secure fit which provides maximum SUPPORT, COMPRESSION and PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT.
SUPPORT from the sleeves limits patella movement, and can increase proprioception (the capacity to feel the position of a joint in space as sensed by the central nervous system). This gives you increased joint stability and higher muscle coordination.
COMPRESSING the knee encourages blood flow through the blood vessels of the knee the results in less pain and swelling during and after performance.
PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT. Due to the elasticated nature of our strong 7mm neoprene sleeves, kinetic energy can be stored. This can be subsequently released during the extension of the knee to provide additional performance when squatting, jumping, during cleans & snatches and in movements in which you extend your knee.
CONCLUSION - Great all round product that is good for warmth and movement and offers compression and support with minimum restriction. However they will never give you the same performance and mechanical advantage of knee wraps. Great for all forms of lifting/training.
