Dear friends and patrons of the GMChorale,

The GMChorale has postponed its concert “With Joy of Heart and Gladness,” previously scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at 4:00 pm at the Santo Fragilio Performing Arts Center at Middletown High School, 200 La Rosa Lane, in Middletown, CT. The concert, which was to have presented choral and orchestral music of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, and Mascagni, will be rescheduled for a future date later this year.

The action was taken to comply with recommendations for reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, by cancelling events that would attract large audiences. In addition, the City of Middletown has closed the public schools, including for outside events such as the GMChorale’s concert.

“After having several really wonderful rehearsals with the singers of the GMChorale, we are all very disappointed that we can’t share this beautiful music with our listeners in April, but in the interests of protecting the health of our musicians, the audience, and the general public, we fully support all efforts to contain this outbreak,” said Joseph D’Eugenio, Artistic Director of the GMChorale.  “We look forward to finding a new opportunity to present this concert later in the year.”

When a new date has been determined for this concert, the GMChorale will share that news in this newsletter, on our website and social media pages, and in public media.

Patrons who purchased tickets for the April 26 GMChorale concert have several options:

1 – Hold and use for rescheduled concert – All tickets already sold for the April 26 concert will be honored for whatever future date is set for this concert.

If you have not received an email by March 31, or if you have other questions or concerns about your tickets for this concert, please contact the GMChorale’s marketing office at 860-316-4854 (leave a message) or

If you are not able to re-use or exchange the tickets, please consider converting them into a donation to the GMChorale. Though the concert was cancelled, the GMChorale has still incurred expenses for music, rehearsal space, musicians, and more, during the several weeks of rehearsals as we began to prepare this concert for you. Our forthcoming message will include information on how you may make this donation, if you choose.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, as we all do our best to care for each other and safeguard the public health during this challenging time. We are all looking forward to the day later this year when the GMChorale is able to present, with full hearts and voices, “With Joy of Heart and Gladness.”

Here's a little consolatory music to savor: Famed Mozart interpreter Barbara Hendricks sings Mozart's "Laudate Dominum," just one of the choral classics that the GMChorale will save from the postponed April 26 concert to sing for you later in the year.
