GMChorale's "Resounding Voices" season continues on Sunday, April 29 with a performance of Jephte, the oratorio by Carissimi that set the standard for later works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and others. Come hear for yourself the interplay between chorus, soloists, and orchestra as the heartbreaking tale unfolds of a father's rash promise and a daughter's loving response.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Giacomo Carissimi’s heartbreakingly beautiful oratorio Jephte, a story of loss and reconciliation set to some of the most exquisite music of the early Baroque. Carissimi, whose innovations made lasting impressions on Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi, established much of what we now consider traditional to the Baroque oratorio, including the use of vocal soloists and the alternation of recitatives and arias. Though Jephte is considered an exemplar of mid-17th-century oratorio, it is rarely performed. To complement the oratorio, the ensemble will present other choral gems of the Renaissance and Baroque in this final concert of the “Resounding Voices” series.

Tickets: Single tickets, $15-$35; the group rate for 10 or more tickets purchased together, $30.
