Though the GMChorale gave its last main-stage concert of the season on April 29, the season isn't over quite yet! There's more music coming up when Alchemy performs on June 3, and we finish the season in style  with a festive Gala on June 10. We hope to see you at both events!

"Come to the Music!"
There's more singing coming up on Sunday, June 3

Though the full GMChorale concluded its concert season on April 29, there's more music right around the corner! Alchemy, the 24-voice vocal chamber of the GMChorale, will perform on Sunday, June 3, at 4:00pm, at the United Congregational Church of Tolland. No tickets or reservations are required; a free-will donation will be accepted.

Called "Come to the Music," the program includes choral gems such as the "Cantique de Jean Racine" by Gabriel Fauré; "Look at the World" by John Rutter, and the very elegant "Soir sur la Plaine" by Lili Boulanger. There's keyboard music, too: the exquisite Prelude, Fugue, and Variations (Op.18) for piano and organ by César Franck.

The church’s Chancel Choir, directed by Minister of Music Allan Conway (yes, "our" Allan Conway!) will perform on its own and will join Alchemy for several selections.

If you enjoyed hearing soprano Kristine Pekar and tenor Terrence Fay in the GMChorale's April 29 performance of Carissimi's Jephte, you won't want to miss their solos in the Boulanger - it's lush, dreamy music wholly different from the Carissimi. Read about Kristine and Terrence HERE

The singers of Alchemy, the vocal chamber ensemble of the GMChorale
The GMCHorale and Alchemy Invited to Perform in "Singing Together for Peace" Choral Festival

The GMChorale and Alchemy (the vocal chamber ensemble of the GMChorale), both under the direction of Artistic Director Joseph D’Eugenio, were invited to perform in “Singing Together for Peace,” an inter-generational festival of gospel and folk music that was held on Saturday, May 12, at Woolsey Hall in New Haven, CT.

“Singing Together for Peace” was presented by the Saecula Choir Foundation (SCF) in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Elm City & United Girls’ Choirs, an ensemble with which the GMChorale has long been affiliated. The event was a fundraiser for the SCF’s Sisters in Song Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support for girls and young women who would otherwise be unable to afford high-quality musical training. In addition to the public concert, the singers  participated in a masterclass on gospel and folk music led by renowned singer-songwriter Michael Brown.

“The ‘Singing Together for Peace’ festival was an excellent opportunity for the singers of the GMChorale to share their extensive choral experience with younger singers from other ensembles. And in turn, they learned from others who brought a wealth of experience, and they were enriched by singing alongside fellow musicians from other communities and other music traditions,” said the GMChorale’s Artistic Director, Joseph D’Eugenio. "As we make 'Singing for a Lifetime' a living part of the GMChorale's mission and programs, our participation in this inclusive, community-building event fits in exactly with our broader vision of bringing choral music to a greater number of communities across the state. It was a great honor to have been invited."
