Farewell from me...

Well here it is, my final newsletter and my final day at Arkholme. I can't quite believe it, it's going to take me a long time to read all the wonderful cards and notes given to me and I will treasure every one!
It has been an absolute privilege to work at this school, I have loved every second!
The kindness shown to me by staff, children and families, I will remember forever. All your children hold a very special place in my heart.
Thank you so much for all the incredible gifts and good wishes, it's means a huge deal.
Have a wonderful summer holidays and I will see you all around.
Much love, Mrs Waddington xx

PE and School Sport Award

This year we have introduced a PE and School Sport Award for each year group. Class teachers have chosen a child who has shown great enthusiasm in PE and School Sport, they might have achieved well or put in a huge amount of effort. Here are this years winners and the reason they were chosen. The winners received a Lancashire school games bag, water bottle and t shirt. Congratulations to you all....
Nursery - Nancy, we can see that you absolutely love joining in with PE. Well done for trying so hard.
Reception - Jessica, we love watching you take part in PE. You come alive during our sessions, you put in so much effort and enthusiasm. Well done.
Year 1 - William. This year in PE William has always put in 110% effort. He always has a smile on his face when doing any activity and will always try his hardest - Well done William.
Year 2 - Thomas. This is when Thomas shines. It is a privilege to to watch him take part in all areas of sport. During his PE lessons, lunch clubs, playtimes and outside matches and compettions, he always works really hard. Well done.
Year 3 - For being a sensational sports woman in the truest sense of the word. Committed, fair and talented. Darcey is a fabulous goalkeeper and she has played in the school team this year. She has also given 100% to all he PE and sports this year, throwing herself enthusiastically into everything from golf to bollywood dancing.
Year 4 - Charlie is a wonderful sportsman. He is good at many sports, excelling at football, swimming and golf. I have nominated Charlie for this award because he brings maturity, kindness and fairness to any team. Charlie is level-headed and has shown himself to be a skillful umpire and peacemaker on the football pitch.
Year 5 - Abigail, has been amazing in sports this year. It's been brilliant to see how enthusiastic she is and how much she has improved at football. It's great she has joined a team outside of school too.
Year 6 - Tom for showing great sportsmanship in all our games. He was unbelievable in the Wray rugby tournament scoring lots of tries and helping us to win the tournament, well done Tom.

500 Words Competition

The results of our 500 Words competition were announced today in worship.
The winners were presented with a book token provided by Arkholme Parish Council.
The judge was very impressed with all the entries, her comments are below.

"Thank-you for inviting me to choose the overall winner of your Platinum Jubilee Story Competition.
It was a pleasure to read Isabelle, Coco and Alex's stories, and quite a challenge to choose between them.
Each story is an adventure where problems and dangers are faced and overcome.
Isabelle, the youngest finalist takes her corgi Platinum on a quest to find a special tea room. Coco's heroine is a royal twin called Tilly who rejects a birthday spent riding in carriages for an adventure in the forest with her dog Princess. Alex's corgi is struck by a beam of light and lifted up into a spaceship. He meets an alien called Xavier, is captured by Maximus and finally finds his way back to earth.
It's all exciting stuff.
The children are to be congratulated on their imagination, their vocabulary and their very beautifully formed handwriting.
This year's overall winner is Alex."

Gardening Club

Wow what a busy few months we’ve had! In the Robins raised bed we have grown: Wild flowers, sunflowers, lettuce, onions, coriander, peas, broad beans, pumpkins, courgettes, carrots, beetroot, potatoes, spring onions, parsley, nasturtiums and french beans! We created a floral display for the Commonwealth Games complete with grass head hurdlers and a crowd of violas and wild flowers. We have just planted out our pot marigold plants that we grew from seeds to support the RHS ‘Grow Well’ campaign. If you are passing the school by the Main Street gate have a look over the coming month as they should be flowering shortly.
Thank you to all the children that have joined in Gardening Club. You are all fantastic and have a great knowledge of how to care for plants and our natural environment. We hope to see you back at Gardening Club in September for more gardening fun!

In the classroom this week!

Wow Puffins, how have we got to the end of a whole year together? We've had such an amazing time making progress in reading, writing , maths, taking turns, becoming more confident and becoming independent to name only a few. Reception had their very first residential which was a huge success, we've performed in the nativity and put together our own worships and of course we've had lots of Arkholme School fun along the way. Thank you to all our Puffins who've worked super hard all year and to all the parents who've supported and embraced our, sometimes crazy, Puffin ways!
We would like to wish you all a happy summer holiday and a huge thanks for all the cards, presents and well wishes over the past few days.
Reception Puffins we can't wait to see what year 1 holds for you. Nursery Puffins we look forward to another year of Puffin fun and learning for some of you in Reception and some of you continuing in Nursery.
Happy holidays - Team Puffin
A huge well done to William who has saved his Arks all year to buy himself this awesome robot from the Ark shop, well done William and great saving!
It always amazes me how fast the school year whizzes by and this year has been no exception! The year two children this year have astounded me with their attitude to learning. They have worked their socks off and have made superb progress. I am very proud of them! On a personal note, I have loved teaching year two. They are funny, caring, hard working, and live out our school values every day. I will miss them as they move onto year 3 but I am sure they are ready for the exciting opportunities in Kingfishers class.  Can I just say an enormous thank you to you, our wonderful parents, for your support this year, not only of your children but of the staff in Robin class too. Your kind words, cards and gifts are very much appreciated. I feel very lucky to work with such wonderful children and parents. Happy Summer Holidays!
What a wonderful end of term!
Kingfisher Class have worked hard this week on an independent challenge.  On Monday, I set them the task of producing their own book all about mountains and volcanoes. This week, they have researched, written, and illustrated beautiful books and they are rightly proud of them! Some children chose to make pop-up features, others used water colours for illustration, and many made colourful dust jackets. The books will be coming home today, to a bookshelf near you. Enjoy!
Thank-you for all your hard work this week Kingfishers, your helpfulness in tidying up our classroom, beautiful singing at our leavers service and all the generous cards and gifts.
Mrs Cunliffe, Mr Mackinnon, Mrs Morley, Miss Donald, Mrs Williams, Mrs Fuller and I have loved being part of the Kingfisher Team this year. We have enjoyed teaching you all.
Our grateful thanks also to all family and friends who have accompanied us on trips, listened to readers and helped with guided reading.  Without you we wouldn't be able to deliver such a rich curriculum.
Have a terrific summer break and we'll see you in September,
Mrs. Burgess
What an amazing last week we have had! We looked at illustrators this week and illustrated our own versions of The Gruffalo.
The Year 6s did everyone proud in their Leavers Service where we shared lots of our favourite memories, sang some beautiful songs and read a poem.
I will miss them greatly, but I know they are all ready for QES and will do fantastically there and in later life.
Both the Year 5s and Year 6s have been incredible this year, and I truly thank them for their amazing hard-work but even more so for their brilliant personalities which have made my first year in teaching so special.
Thank you for your kind messages, cards and present too. You've all been very generous and I'm really grateful.
Have a great summer.
