Dear FUMC Family,

It been a week of change at FUMC! The Parlor Kitchen is being renovated and the Family Life Center Second Floor, Elementary Age Children's Wing, is being freshened up with paint. It has been fun to see the daily changes that are taking place. The above photo shows how the kitchen looked on Tuesday. This photo shows how it looks on Saturday.

As you can see the kitchen project is moving along quickly thanks to Rogers Construction.  Thank you for your patience as the renovation takes place over  the next few weeks.
Rev. Robert Langley  1934 to 2019

Sadly, this week we learned of the death of former Senior Pastor, Rev. Robert "Bob" Langley on Monday, August 5th.  It was a privilege to attend his memorial service on Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia along with Margaret and Charles Bruce and Susie and Mike Rogers. I have heard from several people this week about how Bro. Langley's ministry at FUMC Texarkana impacted their lives. I want to share  Bro. Langely's obituary with you.

"Robert E. Langley of Batesville, Arkansas passed away on August 5, 2019, at the age of 85.  He was preceded in death by his father Vernie Langley, Sr., his mother, Lou Ethel Hunter Langley, and his brother Morris Langley.  He is survived by wife Marcella Brumley Langley, daughter Jill Hilton (Ricky) of Batesville; one granddaughter Emily Hilton of Fayetteville and one brother Vernie (Kathy) Langley of Dalark.

Robert (Bob) obtained his undergraduate degree from Henderson State University and his Master of Theology from Southern Methodist University.  He served as a Senior Pastor for churches in North Texas and in Arkansas for 45 years and was Pastor Emeritus of First United Methodist Church Batesville.  He served two terms as a board member at Hendrix College and was a 32-degree Mason.
Visitation was from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8th, at First United Methodist Church Arkadelphia.  Memorial service was at 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dalark United Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church Batesville."

Bro. Jay Stephen received a flesh wound last Friday while working out side at his house.  The cut became infected and resulted in his being in the Hospital from Monday to Thursday.  He will be in worship on Sunday. Thank you for your prayers and concern.  (Note: Just don"t grab and hurt his right hand.)

Tomorrow, we will wrap up the sermon series, "Fish Tales"  The scripture focus is  Matthew 13:47-52. The Kingdom of God is like a net the scripture says. Together we will look at this difficult scripture and hear what is says to us today.
As area schools begin this week, please remember to hold the Students, Teachers, Administrators, Staff, and Parents in pray. Next Sunday we will pray as a congregation for the schools.

A "Huge Thanks" to these men who performed the kitchen demolition on Monday.  Herbert Bankston said after the demolition was complete that that was the tiredness he has been when he went home in his 14 years with FUMC.
