A UN report launched at the COP27 climate conference in Egypt found that promises by companies to achieve net zero emissions often amount to very little. Without meaningful action and results, false claims of progress (i.e. greenwashing) mislead consumers, investors and policy makers alike, and do nothing for the planet.
The Science Based Targets initiative helps companies reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by setting clear, actionable targets in line with climate science. Transparency is promoted through its database of commitments made by more than 3,000 companies and financial institutions.
If you work in a business, you can play your part by highlighting the importance of a clear, and honest, net zero strategy. Aside from Science Based Targets, this practical guide is aimed at smaller businesses looking to lower their emissions.
🧳 Businesses can also support personal choices to lower emissions. Climate Perks suggests employers take action by giving extra paid time off to staff who choose low-carbon travel options for holiday trips.
