Hannah and Luke star on England Debuts
Its been a spectacular couple of weekends for the club, and here at Spikes HQ we finally have time to get you all up to speed! We start at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, when on Sunday Luke and Hannah became the first Team Blyth athletes to represent England, as they went up against the other home nations in the SIAB International Pentathlon. Hannah had a great day, with a superb hurdles PB, and really strong performances in the shot put and high jump. Her relentless consistency allowed her to take 6th place overall, with the England team finishing a close 2nd just behind Ireland. Meanwhile, Luke Pichler raced into a huge lead after a dominant hurdles PB and a superb clutch attempts in the final round of both the long jump and shot put. He had what seemed a comfortable margin heading in the 800m, but cramp in both legs hampered his efforts, but he dug deep to just about do enough to take victory on his England debut, also claiming the team prize. A wonderful opportunity and experience for both athletes, and we hope this will be the start of a long international career for both.

Closer to home, it was the Aykley Heads Harrier League XC. Lauren Creaby produced another superb run from the fast pack to take 6 overall. Our U13 boys continued their fantastic season, with Frankie, George, Jame and Dexter helping to secure a 3rd place team result, with some fine individual runs from all four boys. Luke and James also produced great runs in the U15 race.

At our local parkruns there have been lots more great runs over the last two weeks, with Jack W, Frankie, Grace, Elliot and Jack I all in action.

On Sunday, we held our annual celebration night, with 27 of our juniors in attendance with their families. Our Juniors were recognized for their fantastic achievements in 2022, and partied long into the night. You can watch our 2022 review video on

This year our athletes have earned 77 AAA awards, a huge increase on last year! This is testament to all your hard work. To find out more about the AAA scheme and badges, check out the link further below.
We have a supply of AAA Badges and Certificates. Find out more about the scheme and the standards HERE

If you have achieved a standard (must be a legal performance on power of 10), you are entitled to a badge. Athletes will receive their first badge FREE. Thereafter, they cost £4.50 each, contact Dan if you wish to purchase one.
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
