Medal success at Northern Indoors, and incredible performances on the road and XC
It has been an incredibly busy week for Team Blyth juniors, who have shown incredible belief, determination and ability over the last 7 days.

Today in Sheffield, it was the Northern U13/U15 Champs, with 6 of our athletes looking to put their years of hard work and experience into practice - and they did it in style.

Luke Pichler's day started with a below-par performance in the high jump, but he took silver. A huge last round throw in the shot put secured a brilliant silver with a big new PB, however the best was to come in the hurdles, where he was engaged in a fantastic battle, coming out as narrow winner in a championship record time. Emily Bond produced a consistent series of jumps in the long jump, just missing out on a medal in 4th place. In the hurdles, she set PB's in the heat and final on her way to 5th place,  as confidence continues to build. Senna Gorvett was just outside her PB in the long jump, before setting a huge PB in the 200m heat, although he progress ended at the semi-final stage. In the hurdles, Senna smashed her PB in the heat despite also smashing a hurdle. In the final she finished 7th.

Sadie Parker had a magnificent day. She progressed through the rounds in the 200m, scoring a new PB along the way, before finishing 4th in the final. In the long jump, she was sensational. Sadie produced a consistent series of jumps including her last two at 5.14m. She was just pipped for gold, but rewarded with a new PB and club record. Hannah Wilson was solid if not spectacular in the high jump, taking home bronze. She had her sights set however on the 200m, where she dominated her heat and semi before blitzing the final to take gold, just missing out on a sub-26 clocking. Millie Wilkinson moved through the rounds without issue in the 60m, as she prepared for what was to be a fierce battle for gold in the final. She produced a fine run, but was just pipped on the line, but can be proud of her silver medal.

Our small club can be proud to have taken away 7 medals, which was more than all other North East club combined - this is only a result of a focus on long term development, which started many years ago for these athletes.
Middlesbrough was the settiing for the North East Intercounties XC on Saturday, with Frankie Foster and Lauren Creaby both representing Northumberland. Frankie produced a fine run in the minor boys race to finish 35th, whilst Lauren earned selection for the national ESAA Championships as she finished 13th in the junior girls race, and 2nd for Northumberland. A huge achievement. Sadly, little sister Caitlin was unable to start the minor girls race due to a knee injury that affected her race at Gateshead on Wednesday.

The midweek Gateshead meets had track events on Wednesday, and field events on Thursday. It was great to see Isla, Amara and Hollie-Anne make their indoor debuts for the club, with all doing superbly over 60m. Other highlights included a 1-2-3-4 resutls in the 60m hurdles for Team Blyth, and new PB's for Luke in the high jump and Sadie in the shot put.

On Saturday, Niamh Adams smashed her Parkrun lifetime best as she finished 1st female (all ages) at Blyth Links Parkrun. William and Daniel Hall, and Sophie McGarr also park-runned over the weekend.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
