Blyth Juniors Star as Sportshall Series Returns!
Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series
After a gap of 2 years due to covid, it was fantastic to finally return to sportshall action on Friday night, with our juniors stepping up and putting all their hard-work in training into practice.

Our year 3 boys Jack Webster and Jamie Jones both showed great spirit and commitment throughout, with Jack's highlight being a 1.49m standing long jump, whilst Jamie picked up big points in the chest push. New member Alexander Robson-Lamb was superb, with one of the highest points totals of the day in any age group including a 1.83m standing long jump. Oliver Lamb and Harry Ross were absolutely brililant, with strong performances in all 5 events, whilst Richard Gormley's endurance run was a huge highlight. Mairi was another making her Blyth debut, with her performances in the sprint and endurance runs being her highlights. Alex Coyle was supreme in the sprint and endurance races, whilst Ryan was brilliant on his Blyth debut, scoring huge points with his 3.8m chest push. India Gorvett produced a fine series of performances, with her well paced endurance run being a real highlight. Aiden Coyle is now a veteran of the series, and was one of the top scorers overall on the day, with a fantastic all-round display. Dylan Jones was making his debut, and produced a fantastic series of results in every event. Despite not being able to take part in every event due to an injury concern, scored big points including a superb endurance run. Finally, Hollie-Anne was supreme as she finished top scorer overall with a series of consistently superb performances in every discipline.

All these amazing performances helped Team Blyth to a massive 1st place in the team competition. If we have another great turnout next time, we may be able to secure our first EVER team championship at the Blyth Sportshall Athletics Series.

A huge thank you our team of volunteers, who made the event possible. This includes our young volunteers Senna, Sadie, Eleanor, Abi, Niamh, Caitlin and Lauren. You are all stars!

Parkrun
Lauren Creaby recorded the fastest time ever by a Blyth female junior yesterday at the Blyth Links Parkrun. Her time of 20:00, on her first appearance at this event meant that she we first lady home. Last week Niamh was first lady home, so its fantastic to see Blyth juniors leading the way.

Daniel Hall also produced a great run, whilst at the Whitley Bay Junior Parkrun Jamie Floyd ran a superb new PB, with Sophie McGarr also delivering a fine run.

Radio Tyneside - Sports Performance of the Week

The performances of our athletes are becoming noted in the local media. Last Sunday, on Radio Tynesides Sports Week, Luke Pichler won the "Performance of the week" award following his double gold at national championships, with other nominees including Kieran Trippier and team-mate Sadie Parker. This week, Millie Wilkinson and Oscar Pichler were nominated for there performances last weekend.
IMPORTANT - Due to refurbishment, we have NO access to clubhouse (inc toilets) at Churchill track for a period of around 6 weeks.
The series returns for 2022! We look forward to welcoming our young athletes from our club and all over the region to take part. We will also require volunteers to help run the event - contact Dan if you can help.

If you wish to take part in any of the events below, just ask one of the coaching team for more details. We also need team managers/co-ordinators for team relay events!

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
