Scottish CE & Northerns XC: News from incredible weekend!
Scottish National Combined Events Champs @ Glasgow
SATURDAY REVIEW VIDEO
SUNDAY REVIEW VIDEO
The magnificent Emirates Arena in Glasgow greeted out young combined eventers this weekend, as they looked to make a strong start in a long run of championship events over the next 2 months here at the Scottish National Combined events Championships

On Saturday, the Pichler brothers were in action. Oscar was not intending  to take part in full pentathlon, and used the day as a chance for some shot put practice as he broke 5m.

Luke, try 2019 scottish outdoor champion made a strong start in the u15 boys pentathlon, with a big new pb of 5.60m. This was followed up with a  commanding hurdles victory in a championship record time of 8.84s. After a long break, High jump was next, with Luke extending his lead further with another personal best of 1.72m.

Next up was the shot put, and another PB of 10.85m set Luke up perfectly heading into the 800m. With a lead of nearly 400 points, Luke could have cruised home, but fully committed to the task and smashed his personal best with a time of 2:19.75. Luke was crowend Scottish National Champion, with a new personal best and UK leading score of 2835pts, just a fraction away from the 27-year old championship record. A sublime performance.

On Sunday it was the turn of our U15 girls, however Sadly Sadie was a late withdrawl, leaving Senna and Abi as our representatives. The always nerve-wracking high jump started the day. Despite an encouraging start, Abi went out early with a best of 1.23m. Senna was in inspired form and leapt her way to a PB of 1.47m, putting herself near to the top of the rankings early on. Next up was the hurdles, with Abi making her U15 debut. She produced a magnificent race and finished 1st. Senna went in the fastest heat, and smashed her PB with 9.90s. The long jump provided the most challenging moments of the day. Abi was battling niggles and changed her take-off foot, which limited her distance, whilst Senna was consistent although not able to reach the distanres she wanted. Abi continued in the shot put, with a superb PB of 7.96m from a standing throw, whilst Senna produced a clutch throw in the final round of 8.02m to record a PB and keep her in touch with the leading group.

Heading into the 800m, Senna lay 5th overall, someway off the medals, but she knew with a strong run she could get back into the mix. Abi's niggles meant she did not start the 800m, but had produced a couple of find performances. Senna commited early and stuck firmly to her race plan. She needed an 11 second cushion over the athletes ahead, and she ground out the distance she needed on each lap. She crossed the line in a huge PB of 2:32.75 to take bronze -  a superb memorable performance.
Northern XC Championships @ Pontefract
Niamh Adams was our sole representative at the Northern XC Championships at Pontefract on Saturday. Faced with challenging windy conditions, Niamh produced a genuinley fantastic performance as she covered the 3.1km course in a time of 13m01s. In a huge field of 117, she finished in a brilliant 45th place. Truly brilliant.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
