NECAA XC Championships - Blyth Pair Represent
Yesterday Niamh Adams and Frankie Foster proudly represented their club at the NECAA XC Championships at Sedgefield yesterday. This showpiece championship always provides a great challenge, which was fully met by Niamh who finished in 20th place in the U13 girls race. Frankie was 37th in the U13 boys race, as he continues his strong winter season.
Northern Indoor Open - Team Blyth juniors show class
8 of our juniors travelled down to Sheffield as they continued their indoor seasons at the world-class indoor facilities in Sheffield. The nerve-shredding hurdles were first up, with Sadie Parker producing a very encouraging and solid race as she dipped under 10 seconds for the first time with a big PB. Millie Train raced over hurdles for the first time this winter, and despite clattering the first hurdle produced a fine run and personal best of 9.71. Luke Pichler was in ominous form in his 2nd hurdles race of the winter, lowering his personal best, and showing again that he is a hurdler able to compete at a national level.

In the field, Hannah Wilson had speed on the runway, but had work to do on other aspects of her long jump. Nonetheless, she was the class of the field and has lots to build on. Abigail Huntly set a PB of 7.52m on her first time with the 3kg shot, whilst ever-smiling Senna Gorvett produced a big lifetime best of 7.92m, with Oscar Pichler within inches of his PB.

In the 60m, Oscar Pichler set a brand new PB before Millie Wilkinson executed her race superbly as she finished fastest U15 girl, with the fastest ever time by a Blyth female of 8.02s. Abigail Huntly raced from blocks for the first time, and was within a whisker of her PB. Moving onto the oval track, and Hannah Wilson produced a relaxed and composed display to finish as fastest female with a club record 19.28s. Millie Wilkinson 2nd fastest overall, also with a PB, whilst in the same heat Senna was also in PB from with Abi just behind.

in the final field events of the day Senna made it a clean sweep of PB's as she cleared 1.45m in the high jump, with Luke taking event wins in both the high jump (1.70m) and long jump (5.16m). Sadie and Millie both overcame challenges in the high jump and attempted PB heights to crown a superb day of competition.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do this year. Next year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
