2022 Starts with a bang for Team Blyth!
Welcome to our newlook newsletter for 2022, now know as SPIKES! We start the year with some fantastic action to report on. First up we head to Sheffield where Alfie Ward was taking part in the national combined events championships across the two days in the U20 Heptathlon. It was a fantastic weekend for Alfie as he finished 8th overall, and took silver in the Northern competition. Highlights included massive PB's in the 60m, hurdles and pole vault. Everyone of the 4506pts he earned is the result of many years hard work and training.

Closer to home, Niamh Adams produced another fine run from the fast pack in true XC conditions at Thornley Farm, with George Bryce and Luke Stewart once again representing themselves and their club fantastically in on the challenging course.

Today down in Manchester Luke Pichler and Sadie Parker produced fine performances at the indoor open meet. Luke produced consistent and solid performances in all 3 events, as did Sadie whose undoubted highlight was a fantastic long jump series of 4.99m, 5.00m & 5.05m as she breached the magical 5m barrier for the first time.

There have also been a number of school XC competitions recently, with Lauren & Caitlin Creaby and Hollie-Ann Sudder amongst our qualifiers for county champs.

Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
