Clinic Coverage - June and July

Silas, Calvin and Naomi Visiting Scott in his exam room at the clinic.Thank you for praying for Scott as he covered the clinic in June and July while our teammates Jay and Beryl visited family and conducted important meetings in Switzerland and the U.S. The time went really well! He was thankful for good fellowship with the staff, lots of language practice, and wisdom in challenging cases. A woman with a new diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis stands out, because she had been misdiagnosed and mismanaged for many years and was in a great deal of pain. Please pray the proper treatment will bring significant relief!

As we meet more nationals and hear their stories, we continue to be reminded of the need for quality, trustworthy medical care. Scott was amazed how frequently patients told him how much they love our clinic and are thankful for the care they receive. Despite waiting all day to be seen or to receive recommendations following lab tests, many go out of their way to express gratitude. They can’t believe that Scott and Jay would spend so much time listening to their problems and asking clarifying questions. That distinction to what is normal here is an incredible bridge to truth and hope!

More Time at the Orphanage, Building Friendships

With Scott working full-time at the clinic, our family was able to spend more time at Home of Love. It was sweet to get to know the kids more and see our kids build friendships. We often found Naomi being pushed on the swings, Calvin entertaining his new friends with silly songs or antics, and Silas keenly watching the big kids play soccer.

Below, Jess is pictured with some college-aged girls from Home of Love whom she had the opportunity to lead in Bible Study. What an encouragement to see their spiritual maturity and depth of faith! Also pictured, Jess teaching the kids how to play Quirkle.

Summer Rainy Break

With no homeschool, Jess and the kids have enjoyed a more relaxed schedule for summer break. We went to the pool a lot in the June heat. But, the July rains have required a little more creativity including a LOT of lego time, endless read-alouds, and fun times with neighbors.

For a glimpse of our summer below, see Si and Cal catching a baby taxi in the rain, Si showcasing the creative play the rain has brought, Naomi setting up her "house" with her always-nearby baby, some silly faces on the way to the pool, and playing with new friends.
Prayer Requests
  • Back to Full-Time Language: We resumed full-time language on August 1st and would love your prayers for renewed dedication and supernatural help in learning.
  • Upcoming Move to Home of Love: There are a few repairs that we'd like to see happen before the move. Would you pray with us for the logistics? We're hoping to move around December.
  • Back to School: Silas will start 1st grade and Calvin will resume preschool in the fall. Jess is looking forward to another year learning together.
  • Vacation: We will spend the end of August in Thailand for vacation. Please pray for Godly rest, safety, and fun for our family!
  • Vehicle and Driver: After being here for 9 months, we see a lot of wisdom in owning a vehicle. Culturally and logistically, it also makes sense to employ a driver, hopefully someone who could do other tasks for our family as well. Please pray for wisdom and provision in pursuing these things.
  • Mosquitoes: They are really bad right now and can spread some not so nice diseases. Please pray for protection!
