Clinic Coverage

Thank you for praying for my time covering clinic the last month. God graciously provided what I needed for each day including helpful resources and co-workers. I am struck by how special the people are with whom I get to work, a number of whom grew up at the orphanage or boys' hostel. There is such a spirit of peace and humility within the team. I’m thankful for the faithful leadership and example Jay and Beryl have set in creating this culture!

A few mentions from my time in clinic include a case of chicken pox and a likely new diagnosis of scleroderma in addition to large numbers of diabetes, ringworm, and malnutrition. It has been special to offer care to Home of Love children, colleagues' family members, and even my baby taxi driver (see below).
A new friend who often drives me to clinic. This week he decided to stay as a patient.

College Student Conference

On February 15th, Scott and Jess had the privilege of speaking in front of 170 college students. Through an interpreter, we shared our stories of faith and all that God has been teaching us. It was a great opportunity to reflect on God's faithfulness and provision! We hope the students were encouraged and challenged to trust God in all things and to lead lives that show His infinite worth.
Family Happenings
Silas turned 6 on January 29th, though celebration was not limited to that day alone. It seemed any special function, dessert, or meal was for "my birthday!"
Family time has included riding bikes in the alley, reading, and playing board and card games. Sequence and Monopoly Deal have been some of our favorites. Please reply with suggestions for what to try next!
We attended a fundraiser for one of the local English-medium schools. The "Fun Fair" reminded us a lot of summer carnivals growing up, except for the hand-cranked Ferris wheel!

Servant Hearts

Please pray for wisdom, patience, and sacrificial love in navigating our time with new friends and contacts. We are grateful that God is growing our influence and giving us more and more new friends, but we need wisdom and the Spirit's leading in knowing with whom to invest and the healthy amount of disruption to our family routine and well-being. For wedding festivities last week we were able to spend three consecutive days with a large family of nearly 20 (grandfather, multiple adult kids with families of their own, and cousins). It was great on many levels but also revealing of areas we hold tightly. 11:00 PM weddings and 9:00 PM dinner invitations will do that. Please pray that by God's power we live like the one who "came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
With friends the night before the wedding.
Prayer Requests and a Praise
  • Praise God for great diabetes and thyroid test results for Scott and for our clinic being able to reliably offer these tests. Also for Jay and Beryl finding and bringing insulin pump supplies from the capital.
  • Please continue to pray for our language development.
  • Please pray for wisdom, patience, and sacrificial love in navigating our time with new friends and contacts.
