SOUPER BOWL OF CARING!  Thanks to your efforts this year, our youth group was able to collect $675.32; and 217 pounds of food for Community Sharing, our local food project. Thank you for giving!
KNIT AND WORSHIP If you listen better when you do something with your hands, we invite you to take a scarf from the basket in the Narthex.  Knit a few rows during worship, according to the attached pattern.  As you knit, pray for the person receiving the scarf. After worship, return the scarf to the basket; completed scarves will be given to people in need. 
THE DEACONS WILL SOON BE PREPARING MORE SOUP to take to members of our church family.  They welcome any donations of pint-size wide-mouthed glass jars.  Many thanks for your help!
CLIMATE EMERGENCY WORKSHOP on skills and methods for building psycho-social-spiritual resilience and renewal for climate-generated disasters and toxic stresses. Sunday February 23, 1:30pm – 5 pm at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive Street in Eugene. The event is free, but you can register at 
COTTAGE VILLAGE UPDATE The City Council voted unanimously to waive $82,235 of site development and building permit costs for Cottage Village, and the Village has received two new grants: $5,000 from the Three Rivers Foundation and $5,000 from the Storms Family Foundation. It's been a good week for Cottage Village.

BOOK GROUP First Pres Readers, please join us for our next book group on Sunday, February 16th from 3-5pm in the Friendship Hall.  We are reading, The Great Spiritual Migration: How the World’s Largest Religion Is Seeking a Better Way to Be Christian by Brian McLaren.  Join us for a lively discussion.
THE ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING will be on Sunday, February 16th immediately after worship.  This meeting is for the purpose of receiving the Annual Report and voting on the minister's terms of call.  Church members, please plan to attend.
DR.CHEYNEY RYAN, Professor of Peace Studies, Director of Human Rights programs at Oxford University, and Emeritus Professor of Law and Ethics at Clark Honors College, University of Oregon will give a talk at FPC in Friendship Hall, Friday, February 21, 7pm.  The talk will address justice, reconciliation, and community.
LENT BEGINS ON ASH WEDNESDAY, February 26th.  On that night, we will meet with the Methodist and Episcopalian Churches for a dinner at 5:30pm and a Worship Service with the Imposition of Ashes at 6:30pm.  Please, sign up to bring soup or bread or salad to the dinner hosted by the Parish Life and Hospitality Committee.  The service this year will be different - we will remain in Friendship Hall for the whole evening.
LENTEN SMALL GROUP Would you like to join a small group for prayer and reflection this Lenten season?  We will read Lent in Plain Sight: A Devotion through Ten Objects by Jill Duffield.  You can buy the book on Amazon for $13.99.  If you cannot afford the book, but would still like to join the group, please talk to Karen.  We will meet on Sundays at 11:30am in the chapel, beginning on Sunday, Feb 23rd - Sunday, April 5th.  For more information, please see Karen or Chris Heritage.
