She always wore bright red lipstick, outrageous clothing and lived each day as if it was her last. She was my drama teacher in High School and these words she spoke changed my life forever, "Every day should be magical... otherwise, you should be living a different life." This statement was one of the many reasons I chose dance as a career path and took a giant leap of faith in opening Exhale five years ago. It was the inspiration for this year's recital theme as well. Dance has always been 'my magic'. Even on my darkest days, I turn on the music to dance and all of life's pressures fade away. Dance is my release, my happy place, my 'Exhale'. That is all I want Exhale to be for my students, staff and faculty. A place where we persevere through challenges and learn to be the best version of ourselves. A school of dance where students do not compare themselves to others, but rather compare yesterday's progress to today's. A 'home' where dance is solely about the art form and the lessons we learn throughout our dance journey. Lessons that I hope will give my students and staff the strength and bravery needed to create a little magic of their own.
I would like to thank my Exhale Family for five magical years of dance. Cheers to a hundred more! Thank you for being an integral part of our journey.
To my students, no matter how old you get I hope you find the time to dance in your kitchen, sing loudly in the car and enjoy the magic that is all around you.
With love,
Mrs. Jen
