Fieldwork Update

The GGS fieldwork in Moldova was put on hold on 12 March due to Covid-19, but has been resumed in July. Interviewers were trained to hold the interviews in a safe, socially distanced way. If possible, interviews were held outside. About 6,500 interviews have now been conducted and the fieldwork is expected to be finished in October. The Czech Republic and Estonia are almost ready to start fieldwork and the teams in Hong Kong and France are about to start fieldwork experiments.

2021 ESFRI Roadmap: GGP Proposal Submitted!

We are pleased to report that we have now submitted our GGP proposal for the ESFRI (the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) Roadmap. Our submission received the support of the Netherlands (as host country) in addition to 14 other countries. This includes the 10 countries represented on our Consortium Board (Austria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden) as well as 5 additional countries (Czechia, Denmark, Lithuania, Norway, Spain). These letters of support outline the strategic importance of the GGP in providing scientific evidence on population and family dynamics. Needless to say: we would like to thank all the colleagues who have worked so hard on getting these letters of support! The next step in this process will be the ESFRI hearings which will take place next Spring. The final decision will be taken in Summer 2021 and the new Roadmap will be officially launched in Autumn 2021.

Meet GGP's New Team Members

We are very happy to announce that we will be welcoming three new GGP team members on September 1st.
Nadia Sturm: She just completed her master in population studies at the University of Groningen. She wrote her thesis under the supervision of Roberta Rutigliano and Judith Koops. She also did a stage with us at NIDI a few months ago. In the GGP, she will be working mostly with Anne, Susana and Judith on data dissemination.
Pascale Beaupré: She has a background in demography and has been working for many years at Statistics Canada in the survey division. She is a long standing advocate for the GGP and has been sitting on our GGP Council of Partners as the Canadian focal point. In the GGP, she will be supporting countries in fielding our new round of the Generations and Gender Survey together with Arieke and Wojciech.
Wojciech Jablonski: He has a background in survey methodology and has been working for years in the private and academic sectors in fielding social surveys, preparing training material for interviewers, and assessing methodological issues. In the GGP, he will be supporting countries in fielding our new round of the Generations and Gender Survey together with Arieke and Pascale.

GGP Founders

In the last months we have highlighted the role of the founding members of the GGP who were present at the first Consortium Meeting in Paris in 2000. This month we highlight the contribution of Prof. Jan Hoem to the GGP. Jan retired in 2007 and acted as emeritus at the MPIDR and Stockholm University until his death in 2017. Please find his contribution to the GGP on our homepage.
