In this issue we highlight our response to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and highlight other key issues impacting on social care.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) Support for Commissioned Providers

ADSS Cymru is working in partnership with CIW, Social Care Wales, WLGA and Welsh Government to produce a document detailing support for Commissioned Providers. The guidance lists a range of pressures and actions that commissioners may take to address them in dealing with issues arising from the current Covid-19 crisis. This page will continue to be updated as and when necessary.

We are also working with the National Commissioning Board, Welsh Government and others to compile a bulletin drawing together links to the latest updates on guidance for care providers as it has been suggested that there is a need for a consistent source of information. We’re aiming for this to be published on Wednesday. This will also be featured on our website and regularly updated, with emails going out to keep raising awareness.

The bulletin will be featured here:

Welsh Government / Partner Organisation News

Carers Week 2020 gives us a chance to recognise the hard work and commitment of our unpaid carers.
Each day brings a specific theme where we can celebrate all the different ways that unpaid carers provide their support.
The First Minister and Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services have made pledges to support unpaid carers. They will be taking part in a “Care for a Cuppa” session giving carers a chance to share their experiences with the Ministers.

Additional £50,000 announced to support unpaid carers mental health during pandemic

The Deputy Minister for Health and Social Care, Julie Morgan has marked the start of National Carers Week by announcing an additional £50,000 funding to Carers Wales. (June 8th- June 14th).

The new funding will provide more unpaid carers with professional and peer support to help them manage their mental health.

Friend In Need telephone friendship service

Age Cymru has launched the Friend In Need service to help tackle loneliness and isolation amongst the over 70s as a result of social distancing, self-isolation and shielding. Older people will be able to connect with a trained and vetted Age Cymru volunteer for a free weekly friendship call.
If you or somebody you know might benefit from the Friend in Need service, please contact Age Cymru advice for more information on 08000 223 444 or visit the website.
If you wish to volunteer as telephone befriender for the Friend in Need service please register at Volunteering Wales.
