In this edition, we include an overview of our recent workshop with Marc Crumbie, Head of Procurement for RCT CBC and highlight the shared learning from the workshop.
Feedback from Lunchtime Workshop
23 February 2021
As the head procurement officer of a large public sector buyer in the area, Marc Crumbie talked about the £245m RCT CBC spent in 2019 buying goods - £63m of which was from RCT.  He confirmed that the organisation was committed to increasing the spend from local suppliers and they’re making every effort to do so.

Marc explained that they buy local services by advertising (on systems like Sell2Wales) and by invitation to those who have already registered with the authority on approved lists (using BRAVO).
Marc was keen to build up personal relationships with local suppliers, through Connect4Success and directly as a follow up from this workshop. Once again emphasising the benefit of relationships so that suppliers know their customers and buyers understand the local market. He was very interested in the C4SRCT Company Directory, as were the participating businesses.

If you'd like further details on this discussion please get in touch by email or check our website

Shared Learning from the Workshop

Marc highlighted the same theme discussed by Adam from Trivallis and Guto from Business Wales in January, by emphasising the importance of suppliers clicking the right CPV codes. These codes determine which opportunities you receive notifications on, so are vitally important for success.
Marcus Evans Day (My Green Cab) gave his experience of successfully tendering then developing an ongoing relationship with a local anchor organisation, which continues to help both parties with steady business and meeting customer needs.  Both had flourished as a result of this relationship.
Participants of the workshop also benefited from an "Information swap" and networking session, where they were able to offer suggestions to help each other maximise their ability to get work from the public sector in RCT, such as:
  • Names of people to talk to within the University of South Wales so that one of the connectors could make contact and find out what that customer might need going forward:
  • Opportunities for a translator to help food buyers understand the detail of some of the imported goods they buy; and
  • Lots of sharing of names, ideas and insights.
Thank you to everyone who took part in such an energising session, keep an eye out for details of the next lunchtime workshop here.
Trivallis Procurement Plan

Adam Challonder from Trivallis, a housing association based in Pontypridd, recently attended our Sell2Wales Masterclass as our Guest Speaker.

He provided some really useful feedback as someone who is responsible for buying services for the public sector on a daily basis. Adam agreed to share their procurement plan for 2021/22 with Connect4Success members and we now have access to that document.
