The Habanero (Weekly Roundup)

Stacey Abrams won the Democratic primary in Alabama's governor race, becoming the first black woman to be a major party nominee for governor in the United States. A former State House leader, her candidacy will draw serious national attention as Georgia determines whether a black woman can win in the Deep South. Her path to victory is likely a combination of young and non-white Georgians, provided they turn out to vote. Link

The Fed is going to repeal the Volcker rule, a complicated piece of regulation meant to clamp down on high-risk trading. Link

President Trump pulled out of his meeting with North Korea, accusing North Korea of "tremendous anger and open hostility." There's a good chance that China still relaxes its pressure given that it was the U.S. that pulled the plug, making it harder for the U.S. to resume its sanctions campaign. Link

Lyft is committing $100 million to support its drivers. The money will go towards cheaper oil changes, maintenance, car washes, and more. The goal is to help drivers offset some of the costs they incur just by driving, allowing them to keep more of their paycheck. Link

Employees at Google are resigning over Project Maven and what they view as an effort to "weaponize AI." Google's DeepMind and Cloud team's are home to some of the top AI minds in the world. Link
