BCDP Reorganization March 31

at The Bird and The Book.

The BCDP reorganizes on Sunday, March 31, 2019 electing new District Representatives for each of the 10 districts to serve on the Executive Committee.  The newly elected Executive Committee will then meet to elect officers.  All terms are two years.

To participate, you must be a registered voter and resident of Blount County.  BRING YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION CARD.  This will help us make sure you join the correct caucus and make check in a lot smoother.  If you do not have your voter registration card, we can look you up online to verify your status but you will need to show proper identification.  You will also need to sign a pledge stating that you believe in and support the values of the Democratic Party.

The doors will open at noon on March 31.  Food and drink will be available for purchase through the bookstore café.  Water will be available free of charge.  No admissions will be permitted after 1:30 PM.   Districts will caucus from 1:30 to 2:30 PM.  District election results will be reported out starting at 2:30 PM.

For more information see LEAD 2020.

Paper Backup and Voting Centers on Election Commission Agenda

Several members of the BCDP Executive Committee attended the February meeting of the  Blount County Election Commission. The Commissioners answered questions about the purchase of new voting machines for Blount County.  The BCDP believes voting machines with a paper ballot and which allow for paper audits are the best way to assure election security.  The county has issued an RFP for the machines and expects to make a decision by late April.  The Commission also discussed a proposal to be one of 5 counties in Tennessee to pilot Voting Centers.  Voters could vote at any of the centers instead of going to the one in their precinct on Election Day, similar to Early Voting stations.   If accepted, Blount County would have 10 centers that open on election day around the county. These sites will replace the current voting day polling places.  BCDP is tracking the proposed locations of these sites.  We want to be assured that there is no explicit or implicit bias in site selection.  The three current voting centers in D-1 including the MLK Jr. site were cited as not having sufficient parking.

BCDP at Annual African-American Festival

BCDP Executive Committee staffed a booth at the African-American Annual Festival in Alcoa on Saturday, February 23 and helped promote the BCDP: Chair, Bob Hanye, 1st Vice Chair, Sarah Herron, Past Chair, Ruth Holloway, and District Representatives, Sue Hanye, Dorothy Mitchell Kincaid, and Terry Morgan.  TNDP Chair, Mary Mancini, also attended to congratulate local Democrats.  This year's festival celebrated the election of 2 women to local offices, Tanya Henderson Martin, Alcoa City Commission and Jackie Hill, Blount County Commission.

Keep up your support
Help us keep the momentum going by making a donation to the Blount County Democratic Party.  The great progress we made this past year is a foundation for even more success in the future but we need your continued financial support.  Operating a “headquarters location”, supporting candidates and engaging our community costs money.  Help us grow even stronger!  An easy way to support us is by making a contribution through our ACTBLUE account that can be found on our website,
