I hope you had a very Merry Christmas!
As the holiday season brings us to the close of 2021 and the second year of the pandemic, the 2022 midterm election cycle is upon us.
We're kicking off the New Year with some big guest speakers at the BCDP Executive Committee meeting, a fundraiser wine tasting event on January 16th, and the annual MLK March.
We must hit the ground running in 2022 because there are a LOT of Democratic seats on the ballot this year from School Board to Governor. BCDP has done a great job increasing visibility into the community, but we're only just beginning. Far too frequently, folks are still surprised to see Democrats in the community, so our work is clearly not over.
I am forming marketing and fundraising committees to address these long-term, strategic initiatives of getting Democratic candidates elected. Your help in taking your activism to the next level is critical. Transitioning folks from keyboard activism to phone banking, from phones to canvassing, and from canvassing to pulling a petition for office.
Without candidates on the ballot, we can't overcome the gridlock of underrepresentation in leadership and perpetual gerrymandering of districts. When over 30% of the county votes for Democrats, but we only hold less than 5% of the available seats, our values are not proportionally represented.
Set up your game for 2022. Have you considered being the change YOU want to see in local politics?
