Setting the Mission
80th Birthday Celebration

We would like to thank those that attended our Setting the Mission 80th Birthday Celebration on Tuesday 11th December. It was great to bring together so many people that are working in multiple roles all with the goal of supporting young people. The workshop will help shape the future of the work that SCYP do and we look forward to updating you with developments.

Working in Rural Communities with the Purple Bus

On Wednesday 28th November trustees from Sussex Clubs for Young People became the new trustees for the West Sussex Rural Mobile Youth Trust replacing Pat Arculus (WSCC Councillor) and Teresa Gittens (formerly of Action in Rural Sussex). Bernard Baldwin remains as Chair whilst we navigate changes in governance.

From 1st January our Streetmate Detached Youth Work team will start delivery of sessions in Horsham District whilst we work with partners in Horsham and Chichester District Councils to identify the needs of the rural districts and where this service needs to be delivered.

We were also pleased to complete our fundraising for a new vehicle to support our Streetmate Team in Mid-Sussex
https://www.spacehive.com/streetmate

With the help of CT Sussex Community Transport http://ctsussex.org.uk/ we are going to be rethinking how best to support our members and rural communities with our detached team/s.

If you would like the Purple Bus and Streetmate team to visit you then please get in touch and let us know how you think this service can support youth clubs and engage disaffected young people.

Safeguarding consultation for youth clubs and any out-of-school setting
The Government have launched a consultation to seek views on developing a voluntary safeguarding code of practise for youth clubs and any out-of -school settings.
They’d also like views on accompanying guidance for parents, which sets out the key questions they may wish to consider when choosing an out-of-school setting for their child.
We encourage you to have your say on this consulation before it ends on 24th February 2019.

You can find out more here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/out-of-school-settings-voluntary-safeguarding-code-of-practice .

AudioActive Crowdfunder for Bottega Rooms
A Space for Young People to Create Their Futures

We've been offered an amazing opportunity to take over and breathe new life into a large disused space in Brighton. We want to revive it as a hub for young people, music and social innovation and we need your help. By donating to this project, you will be helping to transform this run down dead-space into a beacon of hope for talented, often marginalised young people where they will be able to:

  • Access high quality facilities and equipment
  • Participate in positive activities & communities most nights of the week
  • Nurture talents that are often neglected in mainstream education
  • Collaborate with and be mentored by professional artists
  • Develop skills and networks for the future

By helping us to develop accessible creation spaces your support will also be helping to supercharge Brighton's music scene AND make it more inclusive.
