SCYP Christmas Card Competition Winner
When we first asked the young people who attend our clubs to design our 2019 Christmas card, we never expected to get the response that we did. We received hundreds of entries in just a few months and the standard of the designs was very high.

Unfortunately, we can have only one winner, and after a lot of deliberation between our Chief Executive Officer and our Directors, the winning card was selected.  We are pleased to announce the winner of our 2019 Christmas Card is JoJo aged 10 from Upper Beeding. JoJo has won a £30 voucher of his choice together with a framed version of his card, and a number  of cards to give to his family and friends.

Here we can see JoJo being presented with his card by Maria Colenso. Congratulations to JoJo.

We would like to thank all of the young people who entered and wish them better luck next year.

Safeguarding children and young people is everyone’s responsibility and Sussex Clubs for Young People take our role in supporting our members and partners seriously.

In West Sussex we chair the VCS Safeguarding Forum and in East Sussex the Youth Infrastructure Forum to help coordinate and discuss how voluntary and community sector organisations with partners in local authorities, the NHS and Police.

As part of this multi-agency approach we are able to provide our members with access to online DBS Checks and we are currently developing an offer to visit clubs and provide Introduction to Safeguarding training.

If you would like Safeguarding training for your group, please contact us via email:

YMCA DLG is currently consulting children and young people across our localities (East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, West Sussex, Surrey) to hear about their hopes for their futures and the issues that affect their lives or are of concern to them. They are undertaking street surveys, an online survey and focus groups until mid-January.

‘Shape My Future’ findings will help inform our YMCA DLG 2025 vision strategy which are starting to develop; and will inform future Involvement & Influencing projects designed and delivered by children and young people, e.g. youth led campaigns.

YMCA DLG are keen to hear not just from children and young people who access YMCA services or live with them, but also children and young people in our communities who may have never heard of the YMCA.

Trustees We Need You
We are looking for new trustees with strong business backgrounds who can work with our teams of Youth and Community Workers to develop the business side of the social enterprise. We ideally need a Finance Trustee with accountancy experience, HR Trustee to support our growing staff team and a Marketing Trustee to challenge us to do better at promoting our work and the impact we have on young people.

There are excellent opportunities to shape a charity turning social enterprise, with a time commitment of only 1-2 days per month for the next three years.
