The Nolan Clan was proud to host its 13th Biennial Awards Dinner and General Meeting on 14 September 2019 at the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow, Ireland.
The Gathering began informally on Thursday the 12 September at Clancy’s in Athy Co. Kildare for an evening of traditional music by the friends who gather there every Thursday evening to play music. At one point there were over 13 musicians playing in the tiny room behind the bar.  Everyone had a great evening!

On Friday we had a guided tour of the Carlow Brewing Company Royal Oak Road, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow. This modern brewery is the home of O’Hara’s stouts and ales, wheat beers, lagers, and ciders.  A very informative and tasty afternoon!  O’Hara’s is distributed internationally so you might find some near you if you were unable to join us.

This was followed by an evening of conversation and greetings at the Seven Oaks Hotel as Nolans arrived for the weekend.
Saturday the 14th the day was filled with events all accessible by walking.  Two separate groups left the Seven Oaks Hotel in the morning. One group visited the Carlow County Museum for a tour through the exhibits led by John McDarby, Staff Officer of the Museum. Our second group went to the river quay for a trip on the Barrow and its locks. Thanks go to Cliff of for showing everyone a grand river view with much to learn about the history and current condition of this vital waterway.
Both groups met for lunch at Lennon’s @ Visual after which the groups switched tours for the afternoon.

On the walk back from the boat we stopped at the site of Croppies’ Graveyard where a handsome monument in Graiguecullen stands in memory of 640 United Irishmen who fell in Tullow Street on May 25th 1798 during the United Irishmen rebellion.
Later In the afternoon Carlow County Genealogist Bernie Walsh explained resources and procedures in the County available for genealogical research. She presented several of the free web tools one can access online to search through genealogical records.
