Obama Fires Up Democratic Faithful at Rally in North Philadelphia
On September 21st, former President Barack Obama headlined a Democratic get-out-the-vote rally at the Dell Music Center in North Philadelphia. Looking ahead to Election Day on November 6th, Obama delivered this forceful message: “The biggest threat to our democracy is indifference and cynicism. If you don’t like what’s going on right now, don’t complain, don’t hashtag, don’t put your head in the sand, don’t just sit back with your boys and act like you’re too cool. Vote.” After the rally, Obama attended a private fundraiser at the Warwick Hotel in Center City Philadelphia to benefit the campaigns of Senator Bob Casey (PA-D) and other Democratic Senatorial candidates.

Bob Casey
Candidate, U.S. Senate

Bob Casey was raised to believe, as it says in the Pennsylvania state capital, that "all public service is a trust, given in faith and accepted in honor."

Bob has spent two terms representing the people of Pennsylvania in the Senate, fighting for good jobs, higher wages and fairer workplaces. He is a leader with proven results for workers, women, children, seniors and people with disabilities. He has the experience and record of successful service that Pennsylvanians deserve in their Senator.

Bob has dedicated his career to serving the people of Pennsylvania, as Auditor General, State Treasurer and U.S. Senator. In Harrisburg, Bob compiled a record that focused on making government more accountable and responsive to the needs of Pennsylvanians. He has been a fiscal watchdog who made nursing homes safer and protected affordable child care. He led the fight to reform Megan’s Law to better protect Pennsylvania children and communities.

Since he was elected to the United States Senate in 2006, Bob has worked to create family-sustaining jobs and foster financial security for Pennsylvania families; protect our children and invest in their futures; ensure safety at home and respect for America abroad; promote honesty and accountability in government; preserve the dignity of the vulnerable of all ages among us; and advocate for his constituents and help them solve problems they face.

Bob was the prime Senate sponsor of landmark legislation for individuals with disabilities, the Stephen Beck Jr. Achieving a Better Life Experience Act (ABLE), which allows millions of families across the United States to save for the long-term care of their loved ones with disabilities in a tax-advantaged savings account.

He is a leader in public education, fighting for expanded access to everything from pre-K to technical schools to universities. As concerns arose across the nation about the dangers of campus sexual assault, Bob took action and passed into law the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SaVE), which outlines steps schools can take to educate students and help prevent sexual assault, requires uniform reporting standards for sexual assaults on college campuses and requires schools to provide clear guidelines to students on their sexual assault policies.

From legislation cracking down on terrorists’ financing to a law that makes it easier for small businesses to expand, Bob has a wide range of accomplishments for the people of Pennsylvania. He is committed to raising wages and creating and retaining jobs across the state. A tireless advocate for middle-class families, workers and seniors, Bob is a voice for those who are threatened by Congressional Republicans’ tax cuts to the ultra-rich and recent attempts to undermine Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

We are in the thick of the most important midterm election campaign in our lives. With Trump in the White House, it is essential that we take back Congress. Candidates are knocking on doors every day, lawn signs will be sprouting up with a vengeance as we get closer to November 6th and there will be many events to attend, both fundraisers and old-fashioned rallies to inspire our voters to show up and vote.
In Radnor, we need to get a huge turnout for the whole ticket: Governor Wolf, Senator Casey, Mary Gay Scanlon for Congress, and Greg Vitali and Jenn O’Mara for State Representative. We expect to do well in Radnor, but that’s not good enough. Radnor must outperform so that we can counteract Republican turnout elsewhere. For example, Jenn O’Mara is running a fantastic race and has an excellent chance to win, but she will need a massive plurality out of Democratic Radnor Township to counteract the expected Republican turnout in Springfield!
It is essential to get out OUR voters in massive numbers. To accomplish this, we will need poll watchers in every precinct tracking the strike lists. October 10, 2018, will be the last opportunity for us to submit names and addresses of poll watchers to the county. Please indicate the applicable ward and precinct for each poll watcher as well. Please submit names according to the spelling on the official voter rolls, with addresses.
Please also come to our next RDC meeting on Wednesday, October 10--now held at the Windsor Room of Radnor Memorial Library.
Also – IMPORTANTLY – please support and attend our second annual pre-Election Day gathering at The Cottage at Valley Forge Flowers. You will be able to meet many of our Democratic candidates who will be on the ballot in November. Buy tickets
