Dear Fellow Radnor Democrats,
Given the shocking developments in Pennsylvania, we will be holding weekly virtual meetings in October starting this week, on Wednesday, October 7 at 7PM
. Please mark your calendars. We will be sure to finish in time for the VP debate this week. Please email me in advance if you have unusual questions (firstname.lastname@example.org
) but rest assured we will answer any questions you may have.
Things have been moving way too quickly, ominously, and with great uncertainty. PA House Republicans passed a resolution through committee a few days ago, which, if passed by the full House later this month, will bypass Governor Wolf and provide the legal mechanism for Trump House Republicans to steal the election in Pennsylvania regardless of the actual vote totals. This issue is discussed elsewhere in this newsletter but we’ll be talking about it this coming Wednesday and State Representative Jenn O’Mara will be attending our meeting to answer questions.
The beauty of America’s elections are that control of the voting is very decentralized and administered by many thousands of people of both parties in each state. For example, in Pennsylvania, we have 67 counties and each county has its own bi-partisan system, and dozens of municipalities through which the hi-partisan election mechanism is operated. Delaware County alone has 49 separate municipalities, of which Radnor Township is just one. Unlike dictatorships, with very tight centralized control over election apparatus, our diffuse and decentralized system lends itself to greater legitimacy, checks and balances, and fairness.
Given the many uncertainties, I want the Radnor Democratic Committee and our allies to be able to provide our community with weekly status updates. In addition to Jenn, I hope to also have other prominent and knowledgeable representatives present to speak to us regarding not only the PA House atrocity, but also more practical issues including:
- The status of mail in/absentee ballot applications and ballot processing
- The status of the polling locations and poll worker staffing
- Volunteer and paid Delco election job opportunities
- The status and needs of the various candidates’ campaigns
- And much more...
Please encourage all those whom you know to register to join us for these weekly meetings. That Zoom information is below.
I look forward to seeing you all this Wednesday night
