FROM THE CHAIR
Dear Radnor friends,

We are standing on the threshold of history.

On November 5th, there will be an election, the results of which could be unique to the past 144 years. Democrats; honest, qualified, citizen-based candidates, are poised to finally govern Delaware County. Republicans took control of Delaware County in 1875 and for the last 144 consecutive years have been in charge of every aspect of Delaware County government. This essentially single party system is rife with cronyism, no-bid contracts, and a disproportionately high county tax, as Delco taxes are higher, per-capita, than neighboring counties. Out of all 67 counties in Pennsylvania, ours is the only one in Pennsylvania with a privately run county prison. It is a for-profit enterprise and its superintendent is the brother of a long-time Delco Republican Committee Chairman. They have amassed wealth by what’s referred to as “inmate-days” – the more people they jail, and the more days they keep them behind bars, the more taxpayer money is paid to their corporation.

And there’s more. Delaware County has not elected a Democratic judge in over 100 years, and the bench in DelCo is one of very few in any major metropolitan county in America that is completely one party. Even Philadelphia, with a 7-1 Democratic edge, has several Republican judges. And last, our Republican dominated county government has allowed us to be the only county in the region that does not have a health department.

On November 5th, 2019 we can change all of this. With your votes, we will elect a Democratic-majority County Council, four Democratic judges and a Democratic District Attorney. For decades into the future, we can look back on November 5, 2019 as the watershed election in Delco’s history; where we took control of our destiny and created the kind of county government that better reflects our values and meets our needs as residents of Delaware County.

Also in this Radnor election, we will be voting to ensure that our progressive, transparent, highly qualified and fiscally responsible Democratic majorities remain successfully governing our Board of Commissioners and School Board.

Please join forces with us. THIS COMING SUNDAY, September 15, please attend the Radnor Fall Festival on North Wayne Avenue from 1 to 5 p.m., and visit our Radnor Democrats tent that includes face-painting for children. Sign up here if you’d like to work a shift with us.  Then, go straight from the Festival (with the kids) to our Rally with United States Senator Bob Casey, Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, and many other Democratic elected officials from 5 to 7 p.m. at my house, 238 Chamounix Road, St. Davids (19087). We will have live music, great food and drink – and most importantly – we will begin the countdown to what we hope is an historic turnout and victory on November 5th. See the link below for tickets. For those who need financial assistance, please let me know, as there are no-cost tickets for the rally available to Delco Dem volunteers. I hope to see you all there!
