NOTE FROM THE CHAIR:

Dear fellow Democrats and allies,

It has been an exciting and breathtaking time since the November 2nd General Election, barely two weeks ago and we are now awaiting a crucial court ruling on an incredibly close election described below.

Contrary to the gloomy news media reporting, Democrats scored resounding wins in both Radnor Township and in Delaware County. In Radnor, Democrats won 8 out of 9 races, and for the first time in history have elected a Democratic Township Treasurer and a Democratic Commissioner from Ward Two. Our school board incumbents all won, and only one Republican was re-elected as commissioner, in a ward that has never in history elected a Democrat. At the county level, Democrats won all 7 out of 7 races, retaining County Council, all three row offices and winning both common pleas court judgeships. At the state level the news is not so good, since it looks as if Republicans won 3 of the 4 statewide judicial races, although the Commonwealth Court race is so close that a recount is being conducted. Statewide however, this was not a surprise, since Philadelphia had a very low turnout due to a lack of competitive races or issues to bump up turnout. When Philadelphia does not turn out, Democrats tend to suffer statewide.

However, one race involving part of Radnor is super-hot right now.  Ashwini Udgaonkar, our Democratic candidate for Magisterial District Judge in Marple Township and in Radnor Wards 4, 5 and 7 currently trails BY SIX VOTES (4270 to 4264) out of 8534 cast. The election has not yet been certified, and a crucial issue relates to over 200 votes that were not counted because a negligent postal worker delivered them to the Board of Elections at 8:09 p.m., just nine minutes after the statutory deadline. Those voters absolutely got their votes to the post office in plenty of time, but due to no fault of their own, they are being disenfranchised. This story is developing by the minute, a lawsuit is being filed today, and by Wednesday's Zoom meeting, I'll have more information.

That brings me to this Wednesday, November 17th - Our monthly Radnor Democratic meeting will be held starting at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom (link below). If you want to see the facts, figures and analysis of what happened on Election Day, you do not want to miss this meeting. Our awesome RDC Treasurer Rob Armstrong has prepared a great PowerPoint presentation that will track not only the actual vote counts in each race and precinct, but will provide historical perspective. You will see how far we Radnor Democrats have come since the turn of the 21st century - when Radnor was completely under the crushing boot of the GOP for well over 100 consecutive years. As the third largest of the 49 municipalities in Delaware County by population (almost 32,000), Radnor makes a huge difference in Delaware County elections. You will see the trends, and that we need to keep working hard to maintain the solid edge we have earned.

2022 starts in 47 days from now. In 2022 the future of our nation literally depends upon maintaining (and increasing) Democratic control of the U.S. House and Senate. The open Pennsylvania U.S. Senate seat is central to that national mission. Just as important for us, we must elect Democrat Josh Shapiro as Pennsylvania Governor. With both houses of the PA Legislature possibly remaining in GOP hands, if we have a Republican governor, Pennsylvania will become the Texas of the East Coast, and we will all suffer the loss of many rights. If there was ever a time to get involved in your local Democratic Party, this is the time!

I hope to see a big turnout for Wednesday's meeting. The Zoom link is just below.

Democratically yours,
George Badey
Chair, Radnor Democratic Committee
