Welcome to the April edition of our newsletter. We want to spread news of chess events for juniors in the region, so feel free to forward to friends and family to subscribe. Upcoming events include the Nottinghamshire Megafinal (see below). Let us know if you want to promote an event!

Nottinghamshire Megafinal

Venue: Nottingham High School
Date: 18th May
Entry fee: £15
Time control: All moves in 25mins each. ECF graded rapidplay.

This annual event attracts 1000s of competitors across the country. If you are of secondary school age (Year 7 and above), you are automatically eligible for the Megafinal and can use the link above to enter. There is also a Megafinal in Derbyshire (May 12th, see below) – you can enter multiple events to improve your chances of qualifying to the Midlands Gigafinal on 6/7 July! 6 rounds grouped by age, best boy and girl in each age group (U7 - U18) guaranteed to qualify!

Midland Junior Open 2019

Date: Tuesday 16th - Thursday 18th April 2019
Venue: St. Nicholas Hall, Leicester Grammar School, London Road, Leicester
Entry fee: £30 - £40

FIDE rated and ECF Graded 6 round standardplay. Sections for Under 18, U14, U11 and and U9 (ECF graded only)
Time control is 90mins +30secs increments.

Wakefield Junior Congress

Date: Saturday 28th April; 2019, 10am to 4.15pm
Venue: Netherton School, Netherton Lane, Wakefield WF4 4HQ
Entry fee: £10

ECF-graded sections for Major, Intermediate (U110) and Minor (U40), plus a novice section for new players under 11. Part of the Yorkshire Junior Grand Prix, but each event is standalone. 6-round rapidplay.

Derbyshire Megafinal

Date: Sunday 12th May 2019
Venue: Riddings Park Community Centre, West Street, Riddings, Alfreton, DE55 4EW
Entry fee: £15

6 round rapidplay, U12 - U18s automatically qualified. See above for more information.
