News for juniors

Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter. We want to spread news of chess events for juniors in the region, so feel free to forward to friends and family to subscribe. Upcoming events include the Nottingham Congress (see below). Let us know if you want to promote an event!

44th Nottingham Congress

Venue: Nottingham High School
Date: 23rd - 24th March
NCA logo
This established and popular event is a 5-round swiss event. Split into 4 sections, the Minor (ungraded or under 110) will suit most juniors. All sections are ECF Standard Play graded. £1000 prize in the Open!

This year the incremental time control has been extended to all sections, so each round is 95mins +10secs added per move. Go to the NCA website to download the leaflet or enter online.

Warwickshire Junior Open 2019

Date: Sunday 9th March 2019, 1pm to 6pm
Venue: Warwick Preparatory School, Bridge Field, Banbury Road, Warwick CV34 6PL

4 U11 sections according to ECF grade
6-round rapidplay. Time control is 15mins + 10s increments.


Birmingham Rapidplay

Date: Sunday 31st March 2019, 10.30 - 18.30
Venue: Quinborne Community Centre, Ridgacre Rd, Birmingham B32 2TW
Entry fee: £15

6 round Swiss rapidplay. 4 sections: Open, U170, U140 and U110. FIDE rated and ECF graded.
Time control is 15mins +10s increments.

Wakefield Junior Congress

Date: Saturday 28th Apil; 2019, 10am to 4.15pm
Venue: Netherton School, Netherton Lane, Wakefield WF4 4HQ
Entry fee: £10

ECF-graded sections for Major, Intermediate (U110) and Minor (U40), plus a novice section for new players under 11. Part of the Yorkshire Junior Grand Prix, but each event is standalone. 6-round rapidplay.

Midland Junior Open 2019

Date: Tuesday 16th - Thursday 18th April 2019
Venue: St. Nicholas Hall, Leicester Grammar School, London Road, Leicester
Entry fee: £30 - £40

FIDE rated and ECF Graded 6 round standardplay. Sections for Under 18, U14, U11 and and U9 (ECF graded only)
Time control is 90mins +30secs increments.
