Welcome to our first edition of 2018, which will keep you up-to-date with all the latest local events suitable for juniors. Please remember, we want to spread the news of chess, so feel free to forward to friends and family to subscribe.

ECF U18 Championships, call for players

Date: Sunday 25th February, 2018
Place: The King’s School, Grantham
Sections: ECF U18 Open (12 players) and U18 Minor (6 players, grade limited)
Organiser: Neill Cooper, ECF Manager of School Chess
Format: 2 round Jamboree, round 1 at 11.00am, round 2 at 1.30pm

Notts Chess Association have have now entered a team, so please contact to if you can play. This is a prestigious event, with a chance to become National U18 Champions! All levels are welcome, only requirement is that you are an ECF Bronze member or above (if you never had ECF membership, free silver membership is available).
Our next event is a graded rapidplay on Sunday 28th January 2018, again at Nottingham High School. Sections for all levels.

Leicestershire Rapidplay Junior Open Congress

Date: Sunday 4th February 2018
Venue: Leicester Grammar School
Sections: Open, Major (U80) and Minor (U30)
Time control: 25mins + 10s (ECF Rapid graded)

East Midlands Chess Academy Junior Grand Prix

Round 1: Friday January 19th; Round 2: Friday January 26th
Venue: Bramcote Methodist Church Hall, Chapel Lane, Bramcote
Times: 7.00pm-9.00pm.
Ages: U14s, U12s, U10s and U8s sections. There will be group coaching session followed by an ECF graded game
Entry fee - £10.00 per session. There are 10 sessions between January and May, top 8 results count to the final score. £80 for all 10 sessions if booked in advance.

A qualifier for the England Junior Squad Trial

7 sections from Under 8 up to U11 with sections for stronger and less experienced players.

Junior U130 Four Counties Quadrangular

The next in the series of matches between Notts, Leics, Yorks and Lincs is likely to be held on Sunday 25th March 2018 (awaiting confirmation). So if your son or daughter is U18 and U130 standard ECF grade, and would like to play a single day of 3 ECF graded games with games analysis where time, please contact Simon Scott.
