"A heap of interesting problems to pick and choose, and also really useful information about the exams I might eventually take!" maths student
Alleyn's teacher Sam Parkin has been running a 5-week SSLP Mathematics Preparation course for year 12 students planning to sit a Maths University Admission Test. Future mathematicians from Charter School North Dulwich, STAC, SSSO, and UAE Southbank have developed their problem solving skills under a broad range of topics. They'll be invited back next term for a mock interview.
A brief look back at SSLP's Spring 2019 events and activities...
There have been four competitions this term with science students writing essays for the chance to join the Summer Particle School at CERN; and future leaders applying for the opportunity to spend three weeks on an outward bound course in Canada with bursaries from the Stuart Horne Foundation. Twelve teams of sixth-form science students competed in a Seven-round Quiz to celebrate British Science Week; and staff and students have participated in the final three months of the Street Photography Competition.
Our teachers got together for joint CPD at the three-part professional learning events; and students representing years 8, 10 and 12 have been working on Gen Z Talks Back, a publication addressing the negative preconceptions of young people. Around 100 sixth-form students and interested parents attended a talk by the artist John Keane, who talked about his time as the official war artist of the 1990 Gulf War; and 19 students have been taking part in PlayOn, a series of 10 workshops exploring the teaching of Shakespeare through drama.

Running alongside these events were a further 20 talks and presentations opened up by our member schools to interested partners. Thank you to everyone who has made this term a success by hosting and/or participating.
