Overall winning Street Photography pictures
As another academic year draws to a close we look back at 2017/18 and congratulate Charlotte, Best Picture (left), and Luke, Best Portfolio, who are the overall winners of the Street Photography SSLP competition.
Ali Smith with short story winners
Guest authors visited SSLP twice this year - Ali Smith was guest judge of our Short Story competition, and the co-authors of Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls held two Q&A sessions. We also enjoyed a lecture & workshop by the Chaucer Heritage Trust.
Following an Essay Competition students from six of our schools will be joining a trip to the CERN Particle School this August. We explored complex areas of the curriculum with Professor Anil Seth talking about neuroscience, and Professor Helen Fielding talking about Physical Chemistry.
Bell House Sculpture Workshop
Creative Arts
Year 12 students gathered at Bell House community space for a two-day sculpture workshop, and our teachers networked at the Creative Hub. We had lectures on Architect Matters, Monet & Architecture, Art & Science of Hollywood and the Art of Learning from Art. Our schools also shared their exhibitions for mutual inspiration.
Foreign Languages
Foreign Languages
Our teachers gathered for specially tailored CPD in both Spanish & French for GCSE & A Level, and our students gave Spanish presentations in teams to solve a maths or science challenge. Our A Level students discussed a film from their Spanish curriculum and were encouraged to consider further studies.
We offered our geographers a plethora of opportunities this year with guest lectures from MSF, What3Words and Royal Holloway University talking about African & Arabian climate change, Political Geography and providing a university taster day.
Big Band Jazz
Our advanced instrumentalists joined together at the Royal Festival Hall to perform Britten's War Requiem to commemorate the WW1 centenary, and our Jazz players gathered to form a Big Band led by the Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
16+ Pathways
16+ Pathways
Our teachers have started a Careers Hub to exchange ideas and contacts, and we regularly see schools opening their Higher Education Fairs, their Careers Conventions and their Overseas University Festivals to students from other schools.
God & the Big Bang
RE & Philosophy
Sixth form students studying religion, philosophy and science debated the co-existence of God & the Big Bang and we all enjoyed hearing Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin speak about the Place of Faith in the public square.
2017's Stuart Horne Bursary Recipients
It is impossible to mention all the 100+ activities we have promoted this year, from the Big Ideas Lecture Series to the Pastoral Seminars, and all the networking and learning opportunities provided by third-parties.  But we can't end the year without saying a big thank you to the Stuart Horne Foundation who are providing three bursaries for students to attend outward bound leadership courses in Canada this summer.
It has been a great year for SSLP, with a membership of 15 schools this academic year.  The diverse spectrum of opportunities is only possible because of the engagement of so many enthusiastic and dedicated teachers.  We are proud to be co-directors of this partnership and hope you've enjoyed the year.
