Greetings Mariner Family!
We are preparing for an exciting event that happens on Catholic school campuses every 7 years: Accreditation!
A team of educators sent by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB ED) will come on campus to audit our teaching standards, policies, Catholic identity, safety practices, finances, and more. We have been preparing for months, and we look forward to welcoming the team on October 19th.
Below is a link for more details about accreditation as well as updates on many of the events of the school year so far and upcoming school activities.

SAIL Program
(Student Advancement in Learning)

Ms. Swope is teaching the SAIL program again this year. Students get to participate in individualized learning activities, and this year we have new equipment - a large smart screen in our Multipurpose Room.

Lady Mariners Volleyball
Coach Koronczok assembled the teams in August, and the girls have been working hard in weekly practices, and playing in home and out of town games. They always make a good showing, but more importantly they learn teamwork and have fun.

The Spelling Club has started practicing for the big event - the Spelling Bee held every year during Catholic Schools Week in February. In the past, we've had students go to State and even National, and we're hoping that these students also get that opportunity this year.

Each October, OLG School supplies the local Food Pantry as part of our service to the community. Last week, the 4th grade class won the challenge, bringing in 372 items. Well done, Mariners!
|
|
The Port Lavaca Fire Department gave a fire safety presentation to Pre-K through 4th grade students. As you see here, a popular topic was "Stop, Drop, and Roll!"
Remember to check your smoke detectors and know your exit routes!
|
|
Each October the Blessing of the Pets is held. Students and their parents brought their pets to school to be blessed after Mass. The turnout this year was good, as it has been in past years.

Halloween Parade Oct 28th
|
|
Get on your costumes and head on over to our Halloween Event for Mariner families Thursday, October 28th at 6pm. We will start in the gym with a quick Home and School Association Meeting, (get that service hour!), and bell choir performances. Then we will head outside for teachers to hand out candy, and kids to parade in their costumes. It promises to be another fun event!
|
|
The OLG Home and School Association Coordinators have begun planning the School's Fundraisers, All Hallows Eve Parade, the Christmas Parade and Pageant, Catholic School Week events, Volunteer Recognition, Teacher Recognition and more! We so appreciate these dedicated volunteers.

A School Prayer
Lord our God,
in your wisdom and love
send your Spirit upon our teachers and students
and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you, the source of all knowledge.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
- USCCB
