THE NAVIGATOR

We're back in the swing at OLG!

It's been a busy month and a half, and this newsletter is being published to let you know what's going on and what's coming up at our school.   Just as a reminder, you can go to our website for blue folder notes, the calendar, our Facebook link, teacher pages, etc.  http://olgmariners.org

Also in this edition, there is a Family Fun Puzzle.  Complete the puzzle, turn it in and your student(s) will be entered into a drawing for a FREE DRESS PASS!  Drawing will be held Friday, October 12th.  Don't miss out!
This year's theme is Space. Our Young Astronauts Club (grades 3-5) and Science Club (grades 6-8) will both meet in October for space-related science explorations. Watch for the Blue Folder Note with meeting dates and times.
Second graders have begun preparation to receive their First Holy Communion January 13th at 8am Mass. We look forward to welcoming them to participation in the full sacramental life of the Church.

County Fair and Art Show

The County Fair is coming up and we will have an art display as usual, but this year the rules have changed and we are limited in how much we can display.

We will have our OLG Fall Art Show, and all art work by the students will be on display in the gym the week of Oct 22nd for everyone to enjoy. The art will be showcased at the HSA meeting Oct. 23rd.

Life on Board

Science Adventures

Our middle school students continue to take monthly field trips to the Outdoor Classroom at Little Chocolate Bayou Park to study how the park changes throughout the year.

In an exciting new development, the 8th grade science class is visiting Bayfront Park this year to conduct experiments and potentially create some educational materials for the public on preserving our natural resources.

Lady Mariners Volleyball

The Lady Mariners have been making us proud as they compete, have fun, and demonstrate a great spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Mariner Homecoming

Homecoming is Wednesday, October 24th at 5:00pm against the St. Michael Lady Swords. We will hold a Pep Rally the evening before (Oct. 23rd) at 6:00pm in the gym.  This pep rally will also include our Fall Home and School Association Meeting, a Fall Art Show (all grades), a Bell Choir Concert and our Halloween Celebration.  So get into costume and come out to support our Lady Mariners.  Go Blue!

2018-2019 Mariner Yearbook Sales

It's never too early to order your OLG Yearbook. The cost is $20 for a standard yearbook or $26 for a yearbook with a personalized cover. Part of the proceeds go toward the 8th Grade Retreat.

We have order forms in the office, or order online at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/ with Yearbook ID code 13178719.

Home & School Association Voyages

The HSA meeting Tuesday, October 23rd, will be a Halloween celebration, where the Mariner family can celebrate Halloween in an atmosphere of fellowship and fun as we enjoy the OLG Fall Art Show, a Halloween Themed Bell Choir concert and cheer on our Lady Mariners.

School Advisory Council Log

The SAC is working on updating the OLG 5-year Strategic Plan. Your input is needed, so expect a survey with your student's report card. You will receive one hour of volunteer service time just for completing the survey.

Mariner Feast Day

Family Fun Puzzle

Our School Celebrates its Feast Day on the Feast of the Holy Rosary (Oct 7th). We celebrated the Friday before with special classroom activities, Adoration, a Faculty/Student Mariner Family Feud Challenge and Snow Cones!

To continue the celebration, complete the word search below with your family and turn it in to be entered into a Free Dress Pass Drawing (all Mariner students in the family will be entered for the single Family Fun Puzzle returned).  Drawing will be held Friday, Oct. 12th - so get searching for the following words that relate to our school & Holy Mother!
ANNUNCIATION ASSUMPTION AVE MARIA CORONATION
DOMINICANS GENTLENESS HOLY HUMILITY
